Changing terrain
Is it possible to change the terrain in an area. For example I tried to dig up debree terrain and replace it with forest floor and it just turns into debree. Is there any way to fix this?

not really. most of the terrain like the "forest floor" terrain that you place is just adaptive terrain blocks that adapt to the biome that you are in. so if you are in the destroyed biome and place down terrain blocks they turn into the destroyed bricks, desert would be sand.

I believe gravel blocks will stay the right colour. I don't think any of the other terrain blocks do though. Maybe farm plots?

farm plots are their own blocks so it would just be the grayish color of them but they do click together and make continuous terrain, they don't block themselves off. making dirt using clay might work but it still adapts in certain spots as does asphalt.

And you can paint them actually. Even the upside

you can paint them, forgot about that, I've hit them with some overspray. the only ground texture I remember is dead grass tho, looks like hay or straw on the ground.....

This is something new. Haven't played in a while, and today I tried replacing gravel with grass, but I couldn't. It did not used to be like this.
Maybe this is a bug, or just a stupid change.
We should be able to place any ground block anywhere we want.

Yes. The Chameleon textures are back.

Look for "soil" or "topsoil". That blends into what you are replacing.

that's the problem, they are looking to replace it with a better looking texture.

"forrest ground" maybe?

Unfortunately no. Except gravel all "natural" blocks blend in with the ones you remove.

Actually, yes - to an extent. So far, I've found that dirt, forest, desert, and sandstone, when laid down, remain as its terrain type.
