Is MapGen still insanely mountainous?
I'm wanting to get back into this, but last time I played, the map generation was insane with the amount of hills and mountains all over the map. I tried out several dozen random seeds and even some "best seed" maps, and ALL of them had almost no level terrain outside of cities.

So, as the title asks, is the MapGen still fubar'd?

Map generation is still in the works and not that great. Even if you find a seed with smooth moutains, the biome configuration is still the same just rotated.

There is a program called Nitrogen. It allows you to create a random gen map with many options. The default map size is 8k, with nitrogen you can make a map twice as large at 16K. There is also a few sliders to control how many mountains, hills, rivers etc spawn in your map. It also spits out an image with all the poi's to know what you are getting before starting up a game. Highly recommend for any 7 days player.

When you say mountainous, does it all look like jagged honeycombs everywhere? If so, and you have an AMD card, then thats the problem. It's a known issue, and RNG blows up with those video cards. Random maps Preset 1-3 were made specifically to combat that issue.

Nah, that isn't what's happening. Though I did manage to do that with a seed back in A15 once. I don't have AMD, so I'm good on that front.

Thanks for the link! Never heard of this before so I'll definitely check it out! I miss the terrain gen from A15 and A16. Had hills and mountains, but also had some great "plains" areas, too (wasn't exactly a plains biome, just large, relatively flat areas).
