Although I have mixed feelings about the Magazines and their temp skill boost mechanics, I'll admit that they do come in handy when it comes to using points effectively. There are many skills that simply don't need to be maxed out considering the cost vs. reward. An example would be the max level for Master Chef that unlocks the arguably useless Grandpa Recipes.
The limitations of the points is designed so that the player makes careful choices about their skill paths.
But I still understand your disappointment :)
parkour is arguably one of the BEST perks in the game.
its mandatory as 1 of my 1st points spent.
its incredibly useful in ALL playstyles.
being able to jump up 3 voxels isnt restricted to a "playstlyle".
nor is NOT being able to break your leg.
I use ladder and wooden frame and don't jump down from more that 2 level high roof??
I can see where it would be useful, but I have to say I have never invested in it except in those games where I modded skill points and had "extra" ones to spend. But that is on me. I seem to get sucked in to the same patterns even when I start with other plans: nomad, club and bow, drop boxes all over creation, no main base to speak of. I played this way a lot even pre-17.
So yes I can see the benefits of the perk but it never seems to be the best choice at any given moment. This makes me want to go make an agility build and try a different approach.
I'm not attacking your playstyle, but have you considered this:
Parkour: I like this perk because it keeps you from breaking or spraining your leg, which you want to avoid from happening while looting POIs. In Alpha 17, you could fall through a floor, break your leg, and quickly be surrounded by a large group of zeds. Or, you could be backing away from them and have the same thing happen—accidentally. Same thing goes for accidentally falling off a roof, boxes, or anything else. You only need one or two points in this perk combined with the mod "impact bracing" to keep you moving freely.
Farming: I try to start farming in the first week or two. Farming provides guaranteed food on a regular basis—hunting does not. Hunting also can use up a great amount of time with few rewards—or sometimes—no rewards; you don't have to hunt food that you're growing: it's always in the same place and readily available—which saves you time, a valuable resource in this game. Once you have a good supply of it, you can actually sell it to the trader for dukes to purchase other items that may be in short supply—like ammo.
You are correct about the gyrocopter: if you decide to use a gyrocopter, you only need to build it once; so, using a magazine to do so will save a point.
Same goes for heavy armor: No reason to waste a point here either. I use the magazine to build two or three complete sets of heavy armor to sell to the trader for dukes so I can purchase other items. I only use leather armor or military armor in the game due to their attributes, but I also sell these items as well. Anyway, I craft the military armor at the same time as the heavy armor so as not to waste the magazine—which is limited to 30 minutes.
I also haven't found a need for the" Olympic Swimmer" perk since the maps that I've been on only have small ponds of water; however, that could change in the future.
Anyway, I mostly agree with your assessment regarding the perks—although, I prefer to tweak them here and there.
There should be some way to respec skill points (Remove all your purchased skills, and gain back however many skill points you spent).
