What do you do at night?
Started 17.2 with a single player game in Novagrad. Got a basic 8x8 square base built and when night comes I'm bored as ♥♥♥♥. I'm just sitting here waiting for it to pass. What are you supposed to do at night?

Also can't find setting in single player to shorten night cycle.

You could dig out a basement for your base or even a mine shaft. A basement is good for storage, since if zombies break into your building, they won't be on the same floor as all your precious storage containers. Also, digging and mining through the night can net you enough stone and clay to upgrade an early base to cobblestone really early on. You could then also spend some nights upgrading the walls with said resources and building out the rest of your base more.

This is almost exactly what I do too. +1 for getting that sweet sweet cobblestone early. Flagstone isnt too difficult but, its real work to get everything up to cobble.

since I keep my Zeds on "walk" all the time , for the more classic shambling zombie feel, I still go out hunting and looting even at night time. Whip up some torches or candles, maybe I'm lucky enough to score a mining helmet or flashlight early on; and off to town I go :)

Here's what you are doing wrong.

Mine or go outside to kill stuff, assuming you have a viable light source and run with classical zombies(walk only). When you mine, dig straight down to the bedrock, put wood frames all the way up(you'd put the frames below you and jump).

Then make another shaft next to the frame. Once done, make a ladder all the way up. You can try putting ladders in the first shaft but it's risky and you may fall down and die. I personally prefer to make two shafts where one is occupied by wood blocks.

Make sure you bring a lot of wood or you may get stuck down there(which'd require you to dig yourself out or exit and turn on "cheat mode" and fly yourself out of there, assuming it's a locally hosted server).

Other than that, craft stuff you want, manage/sort your inventory and prepare for the next day. You could also go AFK for the night and use that time to grab something to eat IRL.

Yeah, once you have at least a pistol which is usually pretty easy to get on day 1, night time rock and boulder mining is certainly viable, even if the zombies can run at night. Even if zombies do attack you outside at night, as long as you place a light source like a torch nearby, you should be able to give them a couple of lead fillings without much trouble. Even night-time roaming hordes can be dealt with by making sure you have at least a pistol and some ammo on you at all times.

And once you find an SMG or an AK, you have nothing to fear at night, especially alongside a weapon flashlight mod or mining helmet.

If you don't like to dig, go out and collect resources. Even if Zombies are on run at night it shouldnt be a problem. Adds a little spice to things.

This is what I do I don't hunker down at night. Time is your enemy you need to get out there and do mining and chop down wood cuz you
are running out of time. The 7-Day comes quickly.

Can be really fun.

Exactly. These are what makes night more exciting while getting a jump on the clock.

Night is the exact same with challenge as a bonus, would be interesting if they added an incentive to go out there like in Dying Light. POI are harder to loot if you are not running a stealth build but still doable for small houses.

Craft stuff, sort stuff, plan stuff.

Go through your modifications and repair your gear.

Mine in a hole in the ground for resources you generally don't get by looting and get some more sweet exp.

Update your map icons with the day you looted them.

Nighttime is in many ways more fun than daytime. Theres more wiggleroom to play with the stealth mechanics.
Go out and shoot an arow at a random single wandering zombie or even a full horde and see if you can recover stealth before it reach you. Once you learn that, then you can start practicing breaking LOS with walls or a simple stack of blocks like a pillar.

At some point you begin to wonder if Sprinting night zombies is easier or harder to kill/avoid than walking daytime zombies

Theres a lot of game hidden there, game we didnt have before

edit>; If you dont feel comfortable, then try n plan your lootruns a bit better. Clear the house(s) during day and loot them at night. Start a mine, a farm.. get your ABC right

Always Be Crafting (not really, but it sounded kool)

I have to start a new game, i just realized I seem to have a bug since patch yesterday: my temperature is stuck at 70 even if I'm wet.

But before that though, I like to build / decorate, so at night I just mess around with placing tables, chairs, painting walls, lights... you know, stuff like that.

IRT how zombies move, i didn't have it before, but on my new game I set it to:
day = walk
night = jog
feral = run
moon = sprint
I think that should be a good setting for how I play, just having fun, not trying to be scared or get stressed and stuff.

In the first week of the game I run trader quests during the day. Instead of looting the POI after completing the quest, I will return at night and pillage the POI for loot and resources. This has been a better way to get resources in the early game than trying to mine with a stone axe.
