If there is a sound made by aiming, it's probably just auditory feedback to doubly confirm 'yes I'm aiming now'.
Well like I said everything makes noise, so it totally makes sense that a man prone in armor is going to make a little noise raising a moderately heavy weapon and aiming down the sight.
Imo zombies seem to sleep heavy. I often crouch into a room and a sleeping zombie is right in my face. Perhaps you are walking over trash while doing it or you are lacking in noise muffled connections in your armor which can make a big difference.
