you have to edit the server files or use the console to add him in, beyond that I dont know how.

Are you hosting locally within the client or running the dedicated server?
It sounds like locally within int he client.

Try this:
open the console
admin add <FRIEND'S NAME> 0
close the console.

have them try the dm command after than.

The server owner/host/admin has to do it, not you as the client.

So your friend needs to do that.

im the server host and i do the command, but im getting "wrong number of arguments, expected 3. found 4" how do i fix that?

If friends name has more than one word you need to use quotes. Other way is to use steam ID. Type lpi (list player id) and use the number.

What you actually need to type is:
admin add "friendname" 0
if you use <> like RedEagle says, you get the wrong number of arguments error.

Typically when people say to type <something> in a command they mean to replace the whole thing including the brackets with the required information. Most people understand this. And I'm sure the OP and the other guy got this working years ago when this thread was relevant.
