WTF Bicycle Crafting?
I finally reached level 20. I had my 2 perk points saved for INT4 and the ability to craft a forge, but I had an extra one too and, with great excitement, I purchased the first level of grease monkey so I could make a bike. Except... workbench required, which I can't get until level 30. I mean, sure, I can try to find a workbench at a trader but that's a huge waste of time. This new perk system isn't very well thought out.

Functioning workbenches can be found in some residential garages, and probably other types of POIs as well.

I actually found the bike underwhelming in the brief time I've tried it so far. The stamina drain is negligible, which is great, but it's not much faster than running and I had a hard time finding spots on the ground where the bike would light up green to let me place it.

edit: was not aware of the multiple speed options on the bike, as subsequent commenters have pointed out. Correction accepted.

Or maybe it was, you just don't like the way it was done. Why should the game 100% depend on your building? They put in POI assets for a reason. Get used to it. I promise you, more things like that will come before the game is released.

It's exactly twice as fast as running over long distances when you count stopping for stamina recharge (tested with cardio level 1, with cardio 0 it's more than twice as fast.). Bike is a nice gas-free alternative. But I suppose later if you have Cardio level 5, the advantage diminishes.

You have two speeds on the bike, as all the vehicles, normal and boost (usually your run key)

I didnt see a reason to do the bicycle, when I finally had acid for wheels (i know they boosted now) I was like 1 day in-game away from the minibike, so I skipped the bicycle.

Does the bike coast downhill, as it would in real life?

"New real physics that make the vehicles feel like a real driving game"
From patch notes; you better believe it when driving up and down those 90° slopes :)

Or maybe it's poorly designed and not well thought out and they should get feedback about it since the phrase "It's alpha" is for more than just telling people to shut up.

There are forges and workbenches in most Trader bases. There is no coasting. Sexual Tryannasur (Sp?) will give you engough to Sprint 100% on the bike and not get tired. C will bunny hop over stuff and also help you get you out of the "Dig to Heck" mode. You will need to find some Tires or craft some but they require the super rare Jug of Acid (Its about like finding a unicorn in real life). Some traders have the tires though. It does take 2 of them to complete a bike. The icon of the tire shows 2 but there is only one tire per item. You can no longer get tires from the tires left on the road. You just get materials from them.

Plus the bike has 9 extra storage slots for carrying more loot to make looting a little easier.

It does not get faster and faster. You can stop pedaling and keep the same spped for the most part.
