Normal dyes change the color, but the "Dye: Solvent" doesn't have any color change, but it does fill a slot and give the weapon stat bonuses.
I can't really tell you why though.
Maybe if you have 1 or more dyes attached for stat bonuses, the solvent brings the item back to its original color?
I dunno, I'm just spitballing.
I can attach solvent to a weapon or armor just like dye, but it doesn't add any color - only a stat bonus.
I haven't tried adding more than 1 dye or solvent to the same item so I'm just guessing it removes all other dye colors from the item while still adding the stat bonuses.
It's a clever fix for a weird problem, I'm not sure why they don't just have dye slots though I think they plan on having that by the time a17 is considered stable.
