Junk Turret range?
I'm fairly new to Alpha 18...Can anyone tell me what the range is for the junk turret? Do they shoot 360 degrees or just the general direction they are facing? Also I assume they aim down towards a target. I'm thinking of putting them on 4 block high pillar for my horde night base. Thanks!

The starting range for the junk turret is 10 meters. You can increase that to 14m and have 2 junk turrets with only the closest one running with a point into turrets syndrome.

The angle the turret shoots is less than 180 degress. They call it a junk turret for a reason. It will shoot down, but not at an angle you'd like. If your turret is 4 blocks higher than the zombies it may only shoot at ones that are further back and at less of a hard angle. Keep in mind you'll need to reach the turret to reload it.

^^Excellent, thanks for the info!

You can mod your turret with the extended barrel to increase its range, as well. At max perk, with a couple of tier 6 turrets, extended barrels, drum magazines, rad removers, and cripple'em mods, you will have some VERY nice back up damage for whatever you choose to do. They are fast, accurate and deadly. LOVE my turrets!

^^Nice. I've yet to use mine as I'm saving them for horde night and I don't do them very often! I've picked up four turrets just from looting.

They are great for hoard night until you get to Demo level at gamestage 160. I avoid them then, unless I am able to set them up to hit from behind, though, Demos do this thing... when they're knocked down, they twist to the side to get back up. It means no matter where you put the turret, the chance of hitting their nono button is very high. So, I use them mostly for vulture destruction. Hate vultures.

If you're doing run and gun in the street, though, keep a bunch of them in your inventory to place here and there so you can lead the hoard back around to where they are. That works very well! Before you hit tier 5 in the perk, only one at a time will be active. After tier 5, though, 2 can be shooting at one time, and their range of shot, as well as how far away from them you can be goes up significantly. Super weenie me would NEVER dream of doing a run and gun in the street without those turrets, but it's fun with them.

Ah ok, thanks for the tip. I was hoping to put up 4 turrets on horde night but I guess I'll only be able to use 1 at the moment as haven't levelled up turret perks yet.

Good information to have! I did not know that…

Put up all four! The one you are standing closest to will be active at any one time. So, zeds on the north.. that turret is active cause you're standing there shooting at them. They move to be coming from the south... another turret takes over because you've moved, as well. Set them up where you're likely to be standing to do your shooting. It will work just fine, and take less time reloading them, as well, since they will share the load. When one runs out, another will pick up the slack.

Oh cool. Cheers for that info. My horde structure is basically square with 4 turrets on individual columns facing the structure at North, South, East and West. I'd be about less than 10m range from each of them if I'm on that side of the square. Hopefully it will work!

Or I was thinking of doing one of those ramps (with barbed wire at the side) which they run up and fall through a hatch at the top but having a turret facing them as they run up. That might work too.

I love junk turrets!
Don't forget those mods... for me, most important are drum mag and full auto. After that, can be range extender, shotgun choke, crippler or rad remover.

You can see their firing arc, follow the laser site. (You can also see it lock on to what it's shooting at.)

Max turret skill with 2 full auto & drum mag turrets set up correctly is more than a match for any poi you are looting, especially once you get a feel for redeploying as you move around.

Just to show how I placed the turrets on horde night. They actually worked fairly well, I was based in the cage in the middle and each of the turrets started firing when I went near to them. Thanks for the tips! (Seemed to be WAYYY more zombies than in Alpha 17 though!)

Hoard nights are fun! Great setup, and will be cool when you are able to put SMG or shotgun turrets up there. Not being able to reload your junk turrets will make late night annoying, but in early hoards nights, all is good! I'm glad it worked, YEAH!
