And as also mentioned, it lasts 30min, real life minutes, so half a day / a day depending on your setting.
Otherwise the normal game option for dying is that you drop all your equipped items and backpack but keep the toolbelt(hotbar) I think? This can be changed.
It still doesn't delete them though; you can still retrieve them. Unless full delete was an added option.
Depends what you see as punishment. I'm pretty sure wellness could be recovered quickly if you were able to eat and drink right away; something easy once you get the ball rolling with resources at your base.
Now, the punishment is like your common RPG/MMO, in that you have pretty much all stats lowered, and this time there's nothing you can do to to recover from it other than simply waiting it out. 30 mins to start (real time, not game time), and I'm pretty sure if you continue to die before it ends that timer gets longer.
Which is how I've always played 7D2D. So this change doesn't bug me at all.
But if I didn't play my own Dead Is Dead mode, holy crap. This change seems to penalize the player a little too much.
But those are my feelings and I have no facts to go on as I do not continue playthroughs in which I die. So my feelings about this change may be completely incorrect :)
Any half way competent player will have dropped the sleeping bag before
a fight so mostly it is easy to recover your gear and the de-buffs are a little lame.
Not that much of an issue after the first week or so as you level off. But it CAN
be a P.I.T.A for the first week or so. These days i usually die from stupidity.
What i mean is, i normally die when im building and fall off a wall onto my
own spikes. So i spawn back in, suck up the de-buffs and get on with it.
