Source for rotten flesh?
In A18, you need rotten flesh to be able to make the farming plot.

Anyone know of a good way to come about that other than destroying dead corpses?

I only know of Bodybags, bbq grills, trash piles, and zombie animals.

You can get it while looting ,usualy in microwaves/owens/trash cans...another way is by farming from gore piles which btw increase heat if you leave them sitting around.

If you're feeling well-armed and have a decent stock of healing and antibiotic items you can spend a day or two exploring a wasteland biome town which likes to keep throwing Zdogs and Zbears and Vultures at you. I got more RottenMeat doing that for a day or two than I did in a couple weeks of regular looting and occasional roadkill harvesting. The bodybags like desertpunk3912 mentioned (usually at hospitals) can be a pretty big source all in one place if you find them.

ironically after a good twenty days of gathering all the rotten meat, mostly from vultures, those farms are not as useful as they once were. I get so much food from looting, i rarely cook now. A few points in not needing to eat as often helps too. I ride a bike fast through a burnt forest and you usually drag a few birds along that when you dismount, look back and swing away.

yeah farming needs a boost .. its almost useless

well one point in living off the land is getting 2 plants from wild plants and crops too. But for rotten meat, i often find it laying around and knife harvesting dogs / vultures is probably best option and body bags with axe

i been farming up tons of it as iv been crafting cans of sham as my main food. if you find a main road and just cycle along it, youl find the bone piles. hit them with your knife youl get a couple per, and there are loads of them along the roads. Also barns have several of them. Bobs boars if you go down to where the mutant pig is that area is covered in zombie corpses you can harvest them from. Bear den has loads of corpses too and you can kill the 2 zombie bears for more.

Bob's Boars Carls Corn has 70ish gore piles , so about 7 plots worth of flesh.

Not to mention 500+ bones to make a ton of glue. Duct tape is the currency in A18, you need that stuff for almost everything. So Bones are live, Bones are love, harvest bones anytime you see them, you WILL need them.

I'd probally do the same, Sham has no food poisoning chance, and is pretty easy to make once you get the recipe. Though if I could get a supercorn farm going i'd go for that instead, 20 food/20 hp healed per corn and if its like normal corn they probally stack in the hundreds. I get living off the land level 1 and thats it, then hope I find the schematics for the seeds, and yes supercorn seed has a schematic for it. Pretty much every single craftable thing has a schematic to learn to make it without stat/perk investment.
Zombie animals, animal remains on asphalt, sometimes you can finde remainings of zombies (like in alpha 16 after killing zombie),trash cans, bodybags (in military bases, hospitals, crematorium)

If your into modlets there is one on nexusmods that allows you to harvest from dead zombies etc for a18. Changes corpse health from a 1000 to 350 and despawn time from 30s to 300s

yeah but pretty sure supercorn still has chance of food poisoning in a18. was thinking of going that route as i have t he scematic but kinda ended up the cans of sham way more. the 2 min cook time can be a pain though lol. usually have bacon and eggs or something for a quick full up at base after drinking a few golenrod then carry the cans of sham and just some bottled water since i found the water filter mod for helmet.

I believe you can also get rotting flesh from the "filled" bathtubs...
