I would advise against skipping nights however; Instead look forward to the night coming during your day and collect 'things to do during the night' before night hits; EG: Crafting materials, or prep an area to start building in, plan to dismantle a POI, or start mining into the ground for clay and stone; Every minute and hour you skip pushes you closer to the 7 day horde which is balanced against you having used a lot of your time semi-efficently; If you're skipping a full third of every day, you're going to quickly fall behind.
The trader will still be closed until morning, but everything else should work just like daytime with these couple of setting adjustments.

There is one funny bit from moving the time-of-day slider. Most entities will die within a set amount of time after spawning (to keep the game from dealing with too many awakened entities at once), so sliding time forward can sometimes make a whole group of angry zeds fall to the ground for a group nap.
I don't think speeding the time-cycle does this, just the time-of-day slider.
