7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die

Statistiche:
Horde Base (Above Ground) + Home Base (Underground)
It's often mentioned as of A17 that you should have both a Horde Base and a Home Base in separate locations, the latter being where you place the things that you don't want to see destroyed by a Blood Moon Horde, e.g. Forge, Workbench, Secure Storage Chest, etc.

What do you think about having a single Base, being Horde Base above the ground and the Home Base underground it, with a hatch and ladders?

In case the whole structure collapses and falls to the ground during an attack, will everything underground be "protected" from it and accessible through e.g. an alternative tunnel?

Notice that I'm not stating about surviving a horde underground (I know that in A17 zombies can dig), just protecting critical furniture from a building collapse.

Thanks! =)

As long as whats underneath is properly supported then it wont suffer any damage; However if you die and respawn down below, the zombies can and will begin digging right to your location immediately. Thats part of why its recommended to separate the two by a considerable distance- it forces zombies to despawn at the horde base, and in order to attack you at your home base they have to spawn in normally, so you have time to book it out the door and get moving before they're on top of you.

So yes, you -can- put your home base right below your horde base, and the home base will be perfectly safe except cops that explode, and except if you respawn in the home- since you're still in the area, the zombies wont despawn, and will dig right down immediately to get to your new location.

aye. I've always done above / below as well, but never one on top of the other. Still within proximity or visual range however.
Thank you. I guess an option would be to make 2 Horde (Above Ground)/Home (Below Ground) Bases with a tunnel linking them and (re)placing the bedroll on the Base that you won't be standing right before the horde.
valid tactic, but I would recommend in that case... put the bedroll in a 3rd location. This way you don't risk your home base, or get caught in a death loop if the horde base gets compromised and overrun
I always build a horde and living base in the same place. Always have, always will. It's REALLY not hard to properly secure your base.

The most important thing is to have a wall at least 5 blocks high that is SOLID through. I'm talking a 11 x 11 square of solid flagstone/cobblestone/as much cement as you can manage. Luckily all those building materials are really widely available in many POIs and at the trader. Stick your base on an inaccessible roof (roof of a shotgun messiah or a fire house is good) until you get finished building this block because it is literally the bedrock of your home. Zombies will NEVER be able to break in. Literally never, because it is one solid block and there's nowhere for them to break "through" to. And because it's so solid, they can chew away quite a lot of it and it won't collapse.

I usually put a ladder down the very center of this block and dig straight down to bedrock to make my mine. I usually have a "chamber" of some kind between the base and the mineshafts, to put obstacles in the way of any zombies who dig down into the mineshaft. We have had zombies dig straight down to the mineshafts, they have never once breeched the actual base.

Put a ring of bars around the top of the square, and spikes all around the bottom. Paving the area under the spikes is also a great idea because it helps prevent digging. Build all your normal horde defenses - turrets, pits, outer wall, whatever you usually do - on and around this.

Then put columns on it and build upward. As long as you're building up, SI is a guarantee, especially if you are using concrete. Put your crafting room/s up there, put a bedroom up there, put your kitchen up there, and put your farm on the very top roof.

If you die during horde night, respawn without fear. You can get immediately back to the fight, but your base will never be overrun. Because the columns are under the base but not on the edges, spider zombies can't get up. You enclose your levels and vultures are never an issue. A cop can explode on the bottom block all he wants - the worst he's going to do is blow away a few blocks and not hurt your important stuff in the least.
