I'm crossing my fingers for the Tourist zombie (aka Fat Hawaiian Shirt Guy) to be a pillar kamikaze as was mentioned before the HD model was mad and he was reintroduced.
Yeah! Maybe they should shift the explosion to him instead of the cop, that would I think make gameplay better... spreads out abilities, and allows for better balancing. :) Right now the "tourist" is just lotsa HP. Would be nice to have some ability as well!
Explosion + high block damage but low entity damage (ie, slow and plowing, so won't damage player much, but works great as a wall buster:)
me too, i've played a lot of a16 and almost forgotten about smell and noise mechanics from past alpha's, current zeds are the least difficult individually in any alpha since i started playing (a10.4).
death by animal is far more of a concern than death from zeds for me, but when the ai and the smell/noise mechanics are working properly i foresee a very challenging game.
steel poles having the same hp as a full steel block is what's making defence so easy atm imo, maybe the fatman could help with that if the pimps intend to keep poles as strong as whole blocks.
Hey, that's a good question!
I did have a starter base, but I never specifically made a 3 week type of base. But I actually made something like this 3 week in on my solo stream world, just it was only with electric fences and only 2 of the 4 sides (I was making it much bigger than this, so it represented a quarter).
My starter base build will last you to day 21.. probably day 28 too, which is generally enough to get this basic structure up with dart traps and electric fences, and possiblyt with blade traps... not likely shotgun turrets though, but those are nowhere needed for such an early horde :)
So for day 21, I'd probably go for the same design, towers, walls, electric fences and dart traps, but without the fall trap. The zeds are not going to break through for sure :)
Thats a good idea.
To be honest, I never used poles much until A16. I did use 50 pillars tho. But I have a problem with them same as you do. The worst thing tho, is that either you a) fight from on top, where the AI has huge problems and just mill about, and then I feel like I'm safe because the AI is crappy, or b) you use pole/pillar walls to fight behind, where the zombies WILL bash through given time, but you're sorta abusing the hp of the blocks, and a gap they should be able to crawl through and can't.
I always advocate for them fixing the AI, so that if the player is above/unreachable, send them into berserker mode doing tripple damage or something and seeks out all blocks within 10-15 distance, so that you can't just happily stand above firing down without any danger.
That would be good! Just wish they would talk more about their zombie and ai plans. A lot of talk of their terrain or trees or decorations, but nothing much other than having done AI improvements :P
Indeed. Would be nice to get some good surprises for once tho ;)
UGH, I hate being congratulated on my line of questioning.
I guess you get to electricals quicker than I do. Link it? I like practical survival solutions. (Honestly though, spikes will probably do ya for the first three weeks anyway.)
Was a good question though ;) As normally I've done early starting bases, and more advanced, but not specifically a mid-game base. Rather I tend to make a simple one that lasts me 2-3 weeks, while I gather resources, and then I do a better base in a few stages which gets expanded to handle tougher hordes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZhD0PIUdVU&list=PL5Z54hiemOAvaGeK8_3lOCst40s5vFYak for a d1 base which can easily handle d7/14 hordes, and with a few more spike layers d21 shouldn't be a major issue.
I think the key is getting the concrete. Electric fence being an early tier electricity item is easy to unlock, and it's almost too effective against early hordes as the stun puts them out of action, and leaves them open for quick headshots/bashes. Few layers of wooden spikes to soak up zombies, and it's too easy. I think for A17 they need to ramp up difficult d7-d28 a lot more, because it's way too easy now. :)
How about a solution that lets you loot more bodies?
