No idea what happened to you.
I've noticed two things lately:
---Steam keeps resetting my cloud and "start steam showing this window" and game update options back to their default (on/Store/always) lately, again. Whenever I hard-exit the client/reopen it. This has happened before, and it's annoying.
---so because of this, my version of 7 Days was also "must update!". I let it update, then copied my copy of 1.0/b333 back. Works fine, even tho Steam says it's 1.1 or 1.4 or whatever. I've done this before. Fooled ya, Steam, haha.
---Version 1.0 no longer seems to be in the beta list. This could be because of an upcoming beta release and perhaps (seems like I've read this somewhere, but don't quote me) there is a limit to how many "betas" can be in that list, hence they dropped one of the 1.0 - the oldest - in prep. Some other very old betas aren't available anymore, either, perhaps for the same reason.
Anyway, if you didn't back up your version so you can copy it back, it's probably gone. I don't know if the copy older version back/play from older version install (like click on .exe vs. Steam play) would work re: MP with your friend tho - I only play SP/Offline
Edit: it wouldn't surprise me if after the next big update the beta list may drop another 1.x version before long. EDITEDIT: or it's just Steam being Steam, or a combo of both, or ... :P
