Can't get past "Starting game..."
There is a server I have (occasionally, not consistently) had success joining previously. I consistently fail now. If I hit return once the load screen reaches "Starting game..." then that little box goes away, but the background of the screen remains and I never actually gain my first person interactive view. I can hear the ambient noises where I should be and can even hit ` to pull up the server/client console and see right where it says I actually joined. This console updates when others join and leave, when things are typed in, etc - but I still *can't get past that Starting game screen*. I can join other servers fine, both private and public, remote connect and self-hosted. What's tripping up this one and how do I or the server staff address this issue?

This is on a mac, OS X 10.10.4, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB 1333MHz DDR3, 960GB SSD with 230GB still available, integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 and discrete AMD Radeon HD 6750M. Resolution is 1440 x 900, game is played full screen with Steam overlay enabled on 7D2D version Alpha 12.3 (65).

Be aware that this server is hosted remotely, but its seed wound up being the same exact seed gen name I gave a map that I host locally on my computer (ZombieBait). I do not know if this is involved with the issue or merely coincidence. Both of these server maps (remote and local) were created when A12 came out.

Delete your player file on your server and try to rejoin. Your character might be stuck underground causing this infinite loop.

Are you able to play just fine on other servers/SP?

It isn't my server, it's the remote one that has the issue and the ambient sounds make me think I'm above ground. But I can try it.

Yes, I'm able to play fine elsewhere and locally.

Hello.

I am playing on a server that has done this 3 times in the past few days. Maybe it's the same server, maybe it's a different one, but it's a server-side issue where the server enters a "failing state" of some sort. The server I'm talking about ([e]vil [e]mpire PvP) is currently in a "failing state" so I thought your post might be in reference to the same server. During a "failing state," all zombies/animals/supply drops become frozen in space and chunks stop loading or load selectively. Trees enter a weird state where when they are chopped, they fall through the world 100% of the time. Sometimes, you can hit the right spot and the tree will drop its loot, other times the tree just magically reappears, or sometimes you get the loot AND the tree reappears. Trees chopped down this way (and not successfully harvested) during a "failing state" will instantly fall down and drop their loot next time they are interacted with in a "live state."

Players already on the server can continue playing as long as they avoid chunks that do not load. They can collect items and build and everything else. Killing frozen zombies does not increase kill count during a "failing state." Sometimes, a player can log back in successfully, but other times the chunk they are in unloads or doesn't load properly, which results in becoming stuck at "Starting game..." or other similar screen. The only solution I know of right now is to get the admin to restart the server.
