Have you disabled any anti-virus in use? Have you tried a Windows Clean Boot just before gaming?

Are you playing an old save, or a new one after the 8.2 patch? Is it singleplayer or multiplayer?
Wll, I just bought the game last night and it's been doing it since.
I'll try disabling anti-virus/I'll try the clean boot also

I've been playing in multiplayer with a friend, and considering I just bought it, it's not an old save.
do you recommend deleting any saves before trying the above methods?

Usually when they come out with new patches it is recommended to do a new game (especially with larger ones like 8.2). If the game was created on 8.2, it should be safe - provided you were both on 8.2 when you were connected.

Multiplayer by itself tends to be a bit less stable too. As does the 64-bit version, use the 32-bit for now.
Okay well, I lowered resolution and temporarily disabled antivirus. One of those seemed to have solved the issue

Probably the anti-virus, they can wreak havoc with resource swapping/loading. Glad to hear it is resolved.
