My Airdrop disappeared after opening it.
So new to this just 20.5 hours into the game. Gonna get my first airdrop. Opened it (saw like a Melee Box and a Book box Okay I'll take that later). I didn't take it because I heard 2 Zombies nearby, I didn't want to get jumped on while reading what I saw from the drops. Closed the Airdrop/Supply Crate and Speared and Shoot some arrows to the Zombies. Went to where I last found the Airdrop and its gone. "Great" is it on the ground? did I mess up my Marker? What happened? Overall not sure where it went got a little bit pissed off because of it, since I lost those drops.

Learning can be painful. Anything dropped on the ground will disappear quickly. Not sure about parachute crates.

I think it falls into the category of "another dam life lesson!".
Don't open something if it is not clear.
When you do open something, press "R" and grab it. Don't linger.

Airdrops are different from most crates you encounter. They will always disappear after you first open them. If you don't take everything out of them, they will drop a temporary blue backpack containing the items. This temporary backpack only lasts a minute, iirc, after which it will disappear also.

Just taking everything is usually the better option than gazing into it and thinking about stuff. Which also means that it's wise to make sure you have 5 or so free slots in your inventory before opening an airdrop.

Like many other lootable objects in the game, such as trash piles, bird nests, food piles, etc, airdrop crates vanish when you exit their interface.

WHEN a lootable object vanishes (or is otherwise destroyed IE, chests), but still has loot in it, a bag is dropped on the ground at the location that can be picked up. But this bag only lasts about. Note that this doesn't apply for unlooted objects- Anything that is "Unopened" or whatever the text says will just vanish entirely.

So, You exited the interface and the object vanished, and because you were fighting off an enemy, you didnt see the bag which then itself vanished by the time you came back to get the loot.

As above, Dont loot till it's clear.

espescially since if it's a weapon or armor you don't want you can scrap it or put it in the forge if its metal.
