No pathing spike traps used
Hi,
I have severely issues with Zombie pathing in generel (ignore ladders or block stairs most of the time, instead beating on walls under me), but there is no pathing at all if spike traps involved. Just lost ma horde base thanks to a set of spike traps around the first block of the block stair (just regular blocks, no stairs or ramps so Zombies must jump up). Not a single Z walked in the traps (only few got pushed in), completly ignoring the way up to me ans trashing the support collums of my base till it collaps. Luckily first horde at lower difficulty. It´s devastating, also base build isn´t working, much earlier you get a collaps, somtimes it went from a green block to instant red/collaps. bedrock connected blocks all upgraded to coble stone... will post a picture from this desaster...

I'm curious to see the screenshot, but I'm betting I know the issue for the spike trap thing.

Zombies don't see the world the way you do, They dont see spikes as traps, they just see it as a block- an obstacle. If you place your spikes ON ground level, they'll see it as a block to jump on top of, If you stack your spikes 2-3 tall, they see it as a wall to either break through or navigate around.

Which is what I'm betting you did- You stacked your spikes 2-3 tall thinking the zombies will use them all up trying to get on the staircase, instead they saw it as a wall to walk around TO the staircase that has a path up.

For base building, Make sure you're paying attention to Mass vs Support of the Horizontal-Horizontal connection point; For example, Wood blocks have a Support of I think 40, and a Mass of 5; So you can at most build out 8 blocks from a wooden connection point; If you instead use Cobblestone, which has a mass of 10, you can only extend out 4 blocks. You cannot put more mass than the connection point can support.

Also there's a limit of 15 contiguous block lengths from the nearest connection to a vertical support pillar, regardless of how much support there is- Concrete for example has a support of 120, Using Wood you might think you can extend out 24 blocks; But you can't, once you hit 15, the 15th will either auto-collapse, or it won't support any weight in most situations, including that of the player.

I did a big ol writeup on building mechanics a year or two ago.

Read it over, and watch the video linked- The video is from A15, so it's a bit old, the mass and max load values presented within are likely inconsistent with current alpha values. But the actual Mechanics of structural integrity haven't changed since the videos creation, so it is still absolutely a great resource for understanding building in 7DTD.

There's also a bit of important info in my followup reply(s?) within that thread. Make sure to check those too. :)

If you're positive that you're not making mistakes and things you're building are collapsing for no reason, Need way more info.

I wish it was this way... screenshot is posted but I don't know if you will find it. Done it like in alpha, just a few spikes on ground level. I mean, I used a sea of spikes bevor and it worked... Zs crashed through until they had open up a path, but they never ignored the intended way up to me completely. Fun fact, the one zombie standing on top of another jumped from here on my ramp and had no issues running through another set of spikes placed on the pillar block I use as final path. And if the Z's see the spikes as block... Way not trashing them and go up to me easy instead trying to break double layer of cobble. I have around 550h in the game, doesn't used wooden spike traps much, was not worth the material in my eyes. But seeing YTer saying the traps got buffed if used as obstacles against wandering hordes it cleaning POIs I gave them a second try. Just make a simple horde base with simple blocks the Z's have to jump up and place direct in front one layer of traps and wait on top what happens... Would like to get someone try it.
And the base build... Yeah, I know theoretical the boundaries how far ahead you can build... Can't really describe it but it feels off. Maybe I was just to stupid this time but I had some strange experiences with base build lately... But hey, it's experimental server!
But really, really thanks for answering!
