5.1 Surround Sound not working?
I just tried another game and it's working fine, but this game acts like it's in stereo

That's because it is.... I responded to another thread about it and my findings on it but someone locked the thread and deleted my post from it....

The thing with this game is that you kinda have to play with a headphones or headset because stand alone speakers wont cut it unless they're really close to you and *maybe* they might work. The game seems to *emulate* surround sound ingame using whatever tricks it can to make effect come from only the front two speakers. It works well for the most part - if you're headset/headphones/earphones. Using stand alone speakers don't work quite as well due to the positioning(unless maybe you can reroute your front channels to your side speakers(on a 7.1 setup unless your rear speakers on a 5.1 setup is to your sides instead of actually being behind you for some reason...) and use them instead - maybe work as then the speaker placements would be the same as you using your headset/phones, I don't know - I don't bother with mine...).

The only gripe I have with this *fake* surround sound is that, well one would be that its ineffective when you actually *do* have a proper surround sound system setup to play your games (and or movies - well I use my setup to play surround sound movies on anyways, so my build isnt gaming specific)on, like me and yourself, and two - sometimes you can hear zombies but they sound much closer than they really are, you look behind you because thats what you hear but they're like 20 meters away... Or they come from behind walls or something stupid...

I'm guessing you got like a logitech z906 or something?

I use the platinum Playstation headset. It uses 3d audio which works, quite well with some vr games.

I'm using an actual 5.1 surround speaker setup and can clearly tell the game is locked into stereo. It's just this game though. I tried playing like 5 other games and they're all working just fine.

Yes, as I said, this game is stereo only and (best) played with a headset/phone for better sound immersion due to its "3D sound position" cues. Nothing you can do for now...except wait and see if the devs change the sound system to give users who wish to play on a proper surround setup. The game is after all, still in early access....and still in alpha stages of the game...since 2013...
zombies are much better in surround sound :steamsad:

thats what I thought to - a survival game where sound cues are important.

Is this game still locked to 2.0 sound format?
