High GPU temp
Since the new update im getting a high GPU temperature now. I'm running on a mix of high/ultra with a stable frame rate but my GPU is at 80 degrees celsius, is this normal? RTX 3060ti btw. It's a pretty hot day today which could be affecting it. Should I turn the GPU fan speed up a bit?

Edit: it reached 90 and the fans automatically kicked in to cool it down.

As long as it's not throttling it's not an issue.

I guess, but wouldn't keeping it at that high temperature for a long period damage it in the long run?

These cards were built to run hot for a long time. It will be fine, if it ever gets too hot it will throttle and cool down.

Won't that affect my framerate tho? I'd rather keep it cool enough to not potentially cause lag.

Ehhh. Technically yes and no.. Technically yes because high temperatures do cause silicon degradation.. In effect though, at 80c and lower it's not an amount of damage that you'll really notice or be affected by before the card dies in someother way.

Most modern day GPU/CPUs can run as hot as 95c and continue working fine- It's definitely not ideal to do so, but they can. Some can even go up to 110c.

So long as you're at 80c and below, You'll be fine. And no, it shouldn't affect your frame rate unless the temperature increase is causing the card to throttle back to control it's temperature.

80 degrees is completely fine for a modern GPU. They start clocking down automatically around 90 or so and can run like that under constant load pretty much all the time.
My GPU ( RTX 2080) is nearly 6 years old and i ran it all that time with 80-85 degree Celsius in most demanding games and heavily used AI creation in the last 2 years that bring the temps even closer to 90 after a while.
Still runs as well as on the first day.

Overheating apart from defect chipsets is basically no real problem for modern GPU.

It was literally making the tempered glass side panel hot to the touch, that is whats worrying me.

Warning GPU get hot after 2 min gameplay.
I just tested the game 1.0 for a whole 2 minutes. My RTX 4070 Super, which simply tolerates EVERYTHING quietly and calmly, went wild.

I set the resolution to 1920x1080 and it screamed for help.
All graphics downgraded to Amiga 500... no improvement. The temperature was at the limit of the graphics card.

Restarting the game on Nintendo 3DS.... the GeForce 4070 Super spins with the fans at full load and gets incredibly hot.

I've never experienced that before, just be careful.

I would recommend running a fun curve via msi afterburner, the card will be louder but it'll most likely knock off 10c or more. I also would recommend lowering the GPU power to around 70 to 80%, you'd lose performance but if it'd help thermals a lot.

and you could always just take the side panel off ur case...i speak from experience lol

No, not in any meaningful way. Maybe in 20 years of such use you might be able to detect 4-5% more silica degradation. As long as it is not throttling it is not an issue.

I mean if it bothers you then set a higher fan speed. Nothing wrong with that either. If you do not care about fans being more audible there is no reason not to do it if you feel better with lower temps.

So for me it's always 70-71 degrees
Ogami Jun 24, 2024 @ 11:50am
Thats wild, my RTX 2080 does not go over 70 degrees Celsius so far in 1440p and mostly high settings.
Maybe its a case of your GPU being too powerful and thus running at full force?
Maybe activate Vsync in your NVIDIA Control Center and look if that helps?
Trouser_Dune_Worm Jun 24, 2024 @ 11:51am
Your GPU can run at 80C 24/7 lol

I play NMS, with everything that is graphically possible. and also crap games like BeamNG with a horde of cars, The Long Drive or GTA5 or rdr2... and a few 100 more games with the settings "Everything goes".

This was the first time that the GPU switched all fans to full load.

And with 7D2D, I always had everything at max.

only now my GPU doesn't like it at all anymore.
so be careful.
