Lost all progress
Was playing on my friends game which we both put about 30 hours into and his computer crashed. upon restarting the world i lost all my items and all my levels and experience. everything gone, just fresh character, but our base and my bed were still there.
Does anyone know why this happened and if theres an easy fix? otherwise, how to i edit my character because im on the verge of uninstalling

Not sure how to get your save back but using the giveselfxp or givexp console commands should let you go back to your previous level.

You can also use creative mode to give yourself back any items you lost, assuming you know what they were.

Maybe not the best solution, but if all else fails it should get you back close to where you were.

Hit F1 to open the console.

to give 10,000 XP (could be any number) to yourself: giveselfxp 10000
In order to give xp to another player you need their ID.
to get a players ID type: LP
look for the ID=123 (or whatever) before their name.
then to grant that player 10,000 XP type: givexp 123 10000

To enable creative type: cm

With creative enabled you can open the creative menu by pressing U. You can search for any item in the game and give it to yourself. Magazines, perk books, weapons, armor, resources, whatever.

When you are done getting your equipment back just type "cm" again to turn it off.

Same exact thing just happened to me. Day 69. Game froze during a job then when I loaded it back up it spawned me far away and began the tutorial. All my items and levels were gone. Only had start up items, but my map was revealing everything I uncovered previously and my structures were still there. Any fix? This might be a game killer for me.

Character profiles/save files being corrupted sometimes whenever the game crashes has been a problem for a long time that they are still trying to address.
