don't fly over the edge of the map. I know, it's hard, but it might just work.
So... just to reiterate. Edge of map = death. Don't go near edge of map.

Maps old, but, the radiation area is marked in red and should be still mostly accurate to the current game- For the most part, it's only at the edge of the map.
In current RWG worlds, the radiation is ONLY at the very edges of the map to prevent the player from reaching the edge, and is denoted by the drop off of land into open waters.

Again, an old pic, but, it illustrates the point. (sadly this one doesn't show the radiation border though); The playable area is ringed by open waters, and the radiation border is out in the water where the player should reasonably not be going since there's literally nothing out there- You can't see anything on the other side or anything.
