Can't place bedroll in my own land claim area

Took a while to find a base I actually wanted, so I've been moving my bedroll around with me. Now that I place my land claim block, I only get the sound that means the placement is invalid (the same noise you get if you are in multiplayer and trying to place in someone else's area but not in their party/not an ally). I have googled and looked in this forum, but can't find anything. What am I doing wrong?

Is it still happening if you're trying to place it in a wide open dirt patch spot, or only when inside? Remember the bedroll needs a certain number of "open" squares around it to allow for you to physically spawn there if needed so you don't spawn into a wall haha. Like two high and at least one open long-side.

If it's happening in total open area tho, dunno. Could be anything from a glitch to a microscopic "small rock" you can barely see and would have to pixel hunt with the cursor to realize it's there. Edit: or the dreaded invisible block in the spot you want

I think you're right about both things. I was able to place it precariously on a small walkway within my land claim area (kind of funny how it looks, actually). I was trying to place it in the building itself - I think it's called Ranger Station 1. There is a bed with a ladder above the bed, and a 2x1 space between the bed and wall. My guess is the ladder is in the way of the spawning or is taking up the block above where I was wanting to place the bed. I've put beds in some questionable places before, and I haven't seen the issue with blocks above it needing to be clear, but I guess that's not one of the iffy things I've done. HA.
