Electric fences no longer working at foot level
Spent a long time preparing some fence traps for horde night and made note of how they were set up in this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxL4zvCZO_c

however after setting them up and the horde arriving I found that the zombies just simply run through them without getting shocked, only being shocked when knocked down, this applies to me as well, being able to freely walk over my traps without taking damage yet if I were to crouch it does shock me. Was there a change to this that I just havent seen anywhere or is something else going on?

To clarify I'm asking whether or not there were changes made to how electric fences work when placed at foot level instead of chest level, I know they work at chest level and am trying to see if a change was made so that they no longer work at foot level (for clarification on foot level vs chest level please take a look at the video linked above) in the video my electric fences placed at foot level do not function as his do

Have electric fences on my base and it works. I play Alpha 21.

Also on alpha 21, do you have them at foot or chest level? Foot level being how it is set up in the video

Works for me as well. I just place them on the ground. No shenanigans.

Are you placing them at foot or chest level? I'm placing mine at foot level like in the video and they don't work unless you are crouching on them or a zombie gets knocked down onto them

To reiterate, the question here isn't concerning whether or not the electric fences work at chest level which they do, it's whether or not they still work when placed at foot level as seen in the video linked in the op, in my playthrough they do not work as seen in the video and I'm trying to see if this is the case for other people as well

Well I see that this thread has been moved to the support and bugs reports section despite the whole point of the thread being to ask if there was a change made, I cant tell if its a bug or not as I havent seen anything else on the subject, its pretty clear that whoever moved it either didnt take the time nor effort to read anything aside from the title to my frustration.

On the off chance this does actually happen to be a bug it would be nice to at least get some confirmation that this is not the way it is supposed to work

Just had the same issue with my group and had to make some very last minute horde night changes. We pulled through but it certainly wasn't optimal! I believe the issue is that the wires connecting two posts used to connect to the very top of the post, and now it connects to the bottom of the electrical-looking portion, slightly further down on the block. Made it impossible to recess the fence posts by one block and hit zombies walking up an adjacent ramp using a build that has worked on previous versions.

I just ran into this problem too. It seems the Pimps changed them only be triggered by the upper body? Either way it sucks now. I want my fences near the floor!

I ended up figuring out how to get them to work, for whatever reason they work when placed at foot level if it is on dirt or any other natural terrain, only when the wire runs over blocks does it fail to work, by simply changing the type of block it runs over from a full cube to a half cube slab it now works at foot level, apparently that extra half block of space below the wire is what is needed

Hey I found the same issue days ago and asked a few communities about it to the same responses you've had. I'm testing right now and you can use a 3/4 block as well unless you hang the post upside down, then that block doesn't seem to work either. It's really messed with the old strategies and it doesn't seem to be possible to get a wire that appears to run just above the top of a block that works. The other issue is, if you place the fence post on the same ground height I've found that crawlers and dogs can go under it. The only thing I've found as a solution is to put the fence posts sideways to the ground, so the wire is dead middle of the block. But it takes up a lot more room. Also the "distance" a wire can travel seems to be based off the blocks it's attached to, so even if you have to horizontal fence posts you're now losing distance they can be apart. It's a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ change in my opinion.

Through my testing as I said, if you lay them horizontal to the ground, you get the same effect we used to, that crawlers get hit etc. it just takes up more foot print space.
