otherwise, zeds are just exp filled slabs of dead meat
The zombies never dropping loot besides random loot bags always bugged me. Small little items would be fine, a couple bullets, a few dukes, some seeds. Items that would of been in the pockets when they died type thing.
On the one hand, it's more realistic for zombies to have some pocket lint, but on the other, it's nice to not need to search every shambling corpse, particularly when they disappear so quickly...
There's only a 2-30% chance of zombies ever dropping loot in this game based 4 types of zombies. Right now, your character is a low level so you will most likely only see "normal zombies" with the occasional "feral"--especially with feral sense on. As you level up, your game stage will increase with it and you will start to encounter more "strong and special zombies" who have a slightly higher chance of dropping loot bags. And eventually demos in late game.
Early game; Normal zombies = 2% chance (or 1 in 50)
Early/Mid/late; Strong (feral) = 3% chance (or 1.5 in 50)
Mid/late game; Special (radiated/screamers) = 3% chance
Late game; Boss zombie (Demolition) = 30% chance (1 in 3.33)
Note; Zombie bears, dogs, vultures, and Grace do NOT count since they cannot drop loot bags.
You can also find "lucky looter" books and after you find all 7 volumes then you will get a 20% increase bonus to all values above.
There are also 3 types of loot bags that zombies have a chance of dropping and each of them contain different tiers of loot.
Yellow bag = Common loot (Can be dropped by all normal/strong/special zombies)
Blue bag = Uncommon loot (Can be dropped by strong/special zombies
Red bag = Rare loot (Can be dropped by boss zombies)
Small Tip; This also has a combined loot multiplier based on biomes. Meaning if you want better loot when they do drop bags then kill them in the wasteland and snow biomes.
Which is how it used to be. Now imagine having to do cleanup after a horde night (corpses did not despawn and had to be destroyed by the players to get rid of them), dealing with 100+ corpses and getting nothing by grass, paper, 3 dozen white t-shirts, maaaaaaybe a gun or two with ammo, Maybe a few cans of food etc.
The time/ effort vs reward for that day or more of cleaning up was not worth it.
Happy hunting!
