Overheating Computer

This seems to be a somewhat common issue but I haven't found a solid answer. My computer is a laptop (Alienware 17), and out of all the games I play 7 Days to Die overheats my computer in a few minutes. Just sitting at the main screen, not loading a world, my PC starts overheating. On my older, ASUS laptop this game runs fine. I updated my drivers and shop vac'd (on reverse) my vents.

This may not be a 7 Days to Die problem but I could still use help if anyone has a work around. I don't understand how this one particular game pushes my PC over the edge.

Its a voxel game. They're typically more CPU intensive than most other games.

Is vsync turned on or off? If its off, turn it on. Better yet, set to "half" and see if that helps.

I had an overheating issue with my r9 390, it was reaching almost 90c, I bought a full size case and x3 new fans, gpu-z reports 69-70c on full GPU load now.

No water cooling.

Only other choice is to reduce graphic impact, but re-test after updates. Optimization makes a big difference on the gpu.

I get the same problem.
Not overheating But heating up significantly more than any other game. worth looking into. The interesting thing is that what overheats is the video card.

I found that reducing resolution has an incredibly high affect on it. i am guessing you are playing at 2k or higher, i dropped to 1600x900 does wonders to the temperatures.
A lot of things in the game are not optimized yet and may be a strain on the PC at max settings.

And to all the useless smartasses with answers like "get better cooling/get better pc" ... if you have nothing usefull to say consider keeping quiet. Just because you are not experiencing an issue described by someone else and do not have the wits to contribute anything else, consider actually not replying, you'll be doing yourselves and all of us a great service.

Nature of the beast when you run such a demanding game on a 970/80 that's been crammed into a laptop. One of those faults in engineering where just because you can doesn't equate to practicallity. That model has a 'graphics amplifier' unit to take some of the stress off of the internal GPU when doing things so demanding. And as always make sure your computer is well ventilated and clean. Especially so when dealing with laptops.
