Forge/Campfire problems

When I try to use the Forge I cant add or make anything on it, I can open up the menu and see everything but not click on anything, same goes for the campfire.
When I Right click and item then Left click in the Forge a console tab opens up.

You have to put in a fuel source 1st. Even 1 piece of wood will light up everything that you have the mats to make in your inventory

You need to put fuel (wood) in the campfire before selecting the recipe you want to make.

For the forge you need to put fuel in it then smelt the resources you need for what you want to craft. You can't craft straight out of your inventory. So to forge iron arrowheads, say, you need to put iron and clay into the input slots, run the forge a while so those resources get melted into the forge inventory (the numbers on the right hand side of your screen) then select the arrowheads (and you still need fuel in the forge).

I suggest reading the forge entry in your journal if you need more info.

I have 50 Logs in there and its still on wont turn off. (I should have said that earlier)

Did you add fuel (I usually make logs out of wood and use the logs for fuel)? Did you stock up the forge with materials? You have to smelt things into the forge before making things with the forge. Do you have all the materials in your inventory to make things at the campfire? At the campfire do you have the cooking pot, grill, or beaker installed? Have you unlocked the perks required to make the items you're trying to make? Are you unable to left click on the crafting items on the left hand menu when you open the forge or campfire with the use key? Are you able to change categories using the little icons above the crafting list on the left side?

I also have to ask... why are you right clicking items and left clicking in the forge? I don't think I've ever done that so I don't know what that does.

Are the logs in the fuel space or in one of the other slots? There are three specific fuel slots near the top of the right hand side, they have an image of a piece of wood on them.

Ok if you have the campfire fuelled and ingredients for a recipe you know (recipe doesn't show a padlock sign next to it) in your inventory:

Click the thing you want to cook. The thing will appear centre left of your screen with a "1" below it. Use the arrows below the "1" to select how many you want to make. Click the go button next to the "1".

yes I have everything unlock and all the materials.

I right click items to take half of take of the pile

everything was working fine for the past couple of days, now just out of nowhere it wont let me do anything on it

You just have to have materials in your inventory for campfire crafting, and you have to smelt them at the forge in the two little boxes in the middle of the right hand side before crafting. Why are you moving half of a pile? What console tab are you talking about? Where are you putting the resources, in the output pile? That's for things made by the forge/campfire to show up and not for materials you're trying to use.

Edit: Sorry - you know how it works but something is broken. I understand now.

Okay, sorry, then you do understand how it works and have used it all before - it's just broken now. Gotcha.

Verify your game files. There may be a glitch somewhere. Try starting and stopping the forge/campfire without crafting anything, then try to craft something.

You must SMELT the raw materials into the forge before you can make an item. So, on the right side of the forge once you've opened it, are two boxes. Put raw iron in one, and clay in the other one, fuel it as you have, then turn on the forge. Let those things melt away THEN you will see the things you want to make light up on the left side, if those things are made of iron and clay. You'll also want to smelt sand, stone, brass and lead into the forge as you can to make other items. If your forge is not turning OFF when you want it to, you will need to STOP any action that's currently queued at the bottom on the left side. Just left click on it once, and it will disappear. That should allow you to remove tools or items if you need. Also, try restarting the game.

I'm not sure why a console tab would appear. Are you playing solo or with someone else or on a server?

Make sure fuel is in cells for camp fire and forge. Campfire for charred meat, bottled water, baked potatoes. Then you will need a cook pot for other things like tea`s, bacon and eggs, and then recipes and the Chef perk for better stuff, and so on. Forge, fuel of course. Can make forged iron I think, maybe cook pot for campfire? I believe anvil and bellows merely speed up time in forge.
