Once the map is finished and loads for the first time though, subsequent loading will be much faster.

Note: You should be opting into the version you want through the Beta tab in steams' 7d2d properties. This will keep you locked into that version so you don't get unexpected update's causing future errors......untless you decide to manually update. Then you'd need to use the launcher clean tools again after backing up your save and map files.
In this case, wiping any maps the game may have created will be a good thing I believe. Doesn't sound like you've successfully created a 'good' map yet and anything that might of generated might be corrupt. Once you've done the 'complete' wipe and clean install, start the game up. Adjust video settings. Here's a trick that might help.....temporarily adjust video to lowest preset. Now go to 'Editing Tools' and create your new map......set viewing quality to low--it really doesn't help much to have higher view quality and it may speed up the process having it just under default. At this point, you should get to see your newly generated map in somewhere around 5 minutes.......a little longer for 10k.....faster for 6k maps.
If however, you still having issues getting the game to even load up so you can use the rwg mixer, you can try;
R-click the game exe's and 'properties' / 'compatibility' setting them to 'run as administrator.'
Also, add the .exe's into your Anti-Virus Exclusion list.
Another thing that maybe binding things up is the EOS check. This is kind of a last resort thing to try but, some ppl have needed to delete the 'EOS' from line 'CrossPlatform=___' in the 'platform' file.
Edit: Also, once you've generated a RWG map you like, take note of the County name it has assigned it. This will be the name you look for when you go to Start a new game. Before going back to main menu and starting a new game, completely close out 7d2d. This will ensure the RAM is flushed of 7d2d process. Then start 7d2d, go to Options--adjust video settings to Medium, start new game selecting your map, adjust settings for things like Multi-player....etc....in the right column tabs. Load game.
