Player Profiles corrupted
Played yesterday on the Navezgane map without problems. Logged off at a POI in the wasteland (no crash or anything weird). Today, when trying to load into the game, got the feared endless NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object bug in the console.

Now I can't load my save, I can't enter Player Profiles from the main menu to create a new character (console also opens up with errors).

Any help or advice would be appreciated. A lot of stuff on the internet applies to older Alphas and nothing has worked so far.

There are a number of things that could have happened on your PC that might corrupt either your game installation and / or your save files. Windows updates have been known to sometimes corrupt a gpu driver for instance. A steam client update has been known to corrupt game installation files or game save files for instance. If you have a piece of hardware that is beginning to fail, like a hard drive for example, your save file could get corrupted. If you were playing and had a faulty memory operation happen just before you exited the game, you could get file corruption. I could go on n on but, point is there's plenty of possibilities here.

Things you should try;
1. What JOST AMMAN has suggested.
2. For more detailed instructions;

Select 7d2d in steam library and click on the gear icon 'manage' to select 'properties.' Use the option to join a beta and select the correct game version you want to be playing. This will ensure steam doesn't try to update your client--thus causing this error in future. Also, do the 'verify files' afterward.

Next, backup your save and map files if you intend on resuming a previous game session. Then run 7d2d launcher.exe, switch to 'tools' tab, click 'Clean' and select all the options to clean. This will clear out any possibly corrupted data in the Windows Registry. Now, switch back to main tab, disable EAC--if not needed--and Anaylitics then, select 'Run and save settings.' Next, at game's main menu--options, optimize your video settings. See this thread for pointers on that;

Close out game. Copy your save and map files back to appropriate user folders. Re-launch game and try to continue your game.
Optionally, create a new map then exit the game so RAM is flushed. Then, launch and start a new game using your new RWG map.

Also, be sure you don't have old mods left in the 7d2d \mods folder(s) as JOST suggested... either in your users \AppData\Roaming\7d2d or SteamApps\Common\7d2d folders. Most likely you don't but, it's good to check.

AS a good measure, open your Anti-Virus app and create an exception for the 7d2d.exe (and the easy anti-cheat file if you need it for Multi-Player) so it's not causing issues every time you run the game.

Be sure you're not running low on Disk space on either your C: drive (where windows is) and / or your drive where the game is installed. Ideally you want to maintain at least 10% of a drives total capacity as empty / free space so windows has room for it's operations.

If after all this, you still get errors. please copy / paste as much of those errors as you can into this thread so we can see exactly what you're seeing. And, if there's an error log generated....follow the steps in the pinned 'Bug reporting' thread and post a link to your file here for us to see it.

This just deletes everything. Not really a practical solution tbh

The way you decribe it your installation is messed up, you need to clean everything.
Also, check the install directory and remove the "\Mods" folder if it's there.

I've been playing the game for the last 4 weeks without any issues. Like I said, I was playing last night without any problems. Between yesterday and today, nothing in the game files was changed and I don't play with mods. Why would my installation just randomly become messed up?

Because... how TF would I know?
Do you even know everything your computer does without you knowing?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
