high ram usage
from about 12 gigs used in total before a20 to my full 16 now, its not ideal, since that means that the game and sometimes even my entire pc crashes. i literally set my graphics to lowest and yet ram usage unchanged

Try turning off Dynamic Resolution, I hear that helps, it eats RAM like crazy.

:shit: I know nothing about linux, but I see it's installed on a laptop.
How are your temps?

As for game options that might help:
Disable Dynamic Mesh and play on a 6k world are about the only things I can think to try.

I'd be willing to bet his gpu/cpu are hot enough to cook and egg.

lower all you're setting to min, disable all mesh and gradually step the other settings up until you find one that stable. LEAVE MESH OFF , run the game at the same resolution as you're desktop.

The game uses about 9-11 gigs of ram typically, with OS background tasks you commonly WILL go to or just over 16gb of ram usage. Truth is, 16gb of ram is just "enough" ram to get by with for gaming now. 32GB is quickly becoming the new "safe" amount of ram. I know of about 12 games now that want more than 16gb of ram. You can set page files to a fast PCIE ssd to help till you get more RAM. Or try and hunt down and kill unneeded background tasks to low the ram usage.

Game trends and this game in particular (the rwg generator mostly) makes me want to up my ram from 32gb to 64gb. Don't care about more powerful ram at the moment, just more of it.

That said so far I haven't had 7 Days use up more than about 11gb of system ram (13-ish total including O/S and a few small things open while gaming etc) over 2-4 hour sessions.

tried making all settings as low as possible and still i reached my ram limit within seconds of loading into the world
and yes my cpu does sometimes go above 90°C

since its a laptop upgrading isnt really an option, so ill have to either be very minimal with the programs i use or get another drive as ram supplement

there should be an access plate on the bottom or the bottom will unscrew and come off , my trucking laptop the entire bottom comes off and my ram was located top left corner. usually the ram can be upgraded easily with just removing 8 screws. They're usually sunglasses sized phillips head. might be worth looking at it. hope this helps.

well thx for tutorial but unless a lot more games will start to have problems because of the ram limit im not really gonna upgrade it

I really don't know what to tell you except obviously this won't be healthy for the laptop , heat kills them quickly. Been there done that. I know it sucks but if nuthing is working on lowering the heat and usage i think the sensable option as much as it sucks is to not play in favor of not cooking the laptop :( , that could get pricey.

there is this cool thing called thermald which takes care of that fairly well, so not a big deal at all

What are you playing on server wise? Is this a stock map like navi or pregen?

If this is a custom map, are you playing solo or are you on a server?

There is a weird issue with custom maps. In my case, if I have a seed and create the map through 7DTD, it takes forever but will use less ram when gaming. If I use the seed file and create it through our server, it is much faster to create the map but will eat your RAM alive. It took me almost 20 minutes to get a 6k random map created through the game and not the server, and my ram dropped almost in half. Server uses 5gb out of 6gb when all 10 people are on, when I made the server do all the map creating I went well over 10gb.

Currently my PC is using 14.5GB of 32GB RAM.
