Alpha 17 console commands for FOV and View Distance
As some of you more astute players might have noticed the changes to the Options Interface made FOV setting go away and changed View Distance to 3 options.

I'm here to let you know both of these can be dealt with.
Let's go into some details.
By default the FOV is now 65 degrees without a menu to change it.
The 'High' setting for View Distance is 7 on the old scale.

Let's fix both of these.
First a default FOV 65, View Distance 'High' (7) screenshot.

Now that we have our stock Field Of View and View Distance let's make some changes.

Press F1 and open the console.
Type the following and hit enter after each
sg OptionsFieldOfViewNew 90
Close Console
NOTE: OptionsFieldOfViewNew has to be set every time the program is closed. It will stay going to main menu, but not across restarts. OptionFiedOfView is the old one that is no longer read.
To use this on a server one needs to do this at the Main Menu before joining the server.

Let's see how that looks.

That's not bad, but well, what about that view distance.
At the Main Menu (before loading save)
Press F1 and open the console.
Type the following and hit enter:
sg OptionsViewDistance 12
Close console, now load a game.

Let's see how that looks.
Here is a screenshot showing the same scene as the past 2 but with FOV 90 and View Distance 12.

Notice all the details that become visible when comparing these screenshots. On the right a player made structure on the shore. One can also see those little wood bushes, and lots of Stone mounds now. Just left of the middle and past the dock we can see another player made structure. Lastly take note of the island on the left. We can see more accurate terrain details, and 3rd player made structure that was not visible before.

NOTE: Changing video settings can and will override these changes and so the commands would need to be issued again.

Anyway, hope I've helped you enjoy some more.

ONE MORE THING: you might also notice I'm pushing near 60FPS in that screenshot using the ancient rig on my profile. :boss:

EDIT:

For playing online you will likely not be able to issue these commands on a server.
As such issue the commands at the main menu. Then join the server and FOV should carry over (not sure about view distance as I did not test that).

Thanks for posting this, I usually like to tweak the FoV up a bit. Console size FoVs usually bother my eyes at best, and make me feel like I'm getting motion sickness at worst. I would imagine they'll eventually put a slider in but this works for the time being.

Perfect!

Glad to be of help. I agree, FOV adjustment is a must for me as well. Plus I don't like 65 FOV (player) versus 180 FOV (Zeds/Animals). At least 90 versus 180 is a bit better.

That’s a good question actually: I mean 7 days is a pretty customizable game so I’d assume so

Sadly no way to autoexecute the command.

Anyone able to replicate unholyjoe's ability to have FOV stick between restarts:

Red Eagle LXIX, Hi. Thanks for information. Can i add you? I have some question to you about 7dtd.

FWIW, I was unable to get it to work as unholyjoe recommended and in light of no other confirmation either positive of negative I've put in the bug report:
