Zombies stopped spawning
I'm on day 468 in vanilla Navezgane. I remember the first days walking in Diersville and there seemed to be zombies on every street. I'd travel around the countryside and see them everywhere. After a while though I rarely saw roaming zombies anymore. Sleeper zombies in POIs were still there, but out in the wild they were scarce.

I did a tour of my bases yesterday in Diersville, south to the desert, down in the wasteland and over near the western lake. On my trip I saw a horde trying to go through a mountain along the road back to Diersville, one loan zombie in the desert, and one other in the forest. That was all. This was part of the reason I stopped playing this game and started a Alpha 16 game, it had become empty and boring.

Today I added Jax Telller's double zombie mod. Suddenly there were zombies again walking around Diersville. I ran out in the forest. More zombies. I rode down to the burned forest. Burning zombies! It had been a long time since I had seen them. It's like the spawners had gotten stuck, or run out of zombies, and changing the spawn values had reset things.

I would assume this is a bug. Has anyone else experienced this.

You can deplete zeds in a region, and will have to wait for the respawn timer. Just like loot and POI's. You can also deplete animals.

It's typically a sign that you don't explore enough.

I didn't know that... How long is the delay for normal Biome spawns? Is it something players can control in options?

Does the respawn timer only count down if you leave the region? I guess that's how loot respawn works but I turn that off. Anyway, I could spend a week in the wasteland and return to Diersville and still no zombies. For a while I'd make the rounds to every trader every restock day, and zombies were almost non-existent. I think the snow biome is where I could still find zombies and that is where I spent the least time.

Here is the spawn section for the forest biome from spawning.xml. Respawndelay is in game days.
<biome name="pine_forest"> <spawn maxcount="1" respawndelay="2.9" time="Day" entitygroup="ZombiesAll" /> <spawn maxcount="1" respawndelay="3.3" time="Night" entitygroup="ZombiesNight" /> <spawn maxcount="1" respawndelay="1" time="Any" entitygroup="WildGameForest" spawnDeadChance="0" /> <spawn maxcount="1" respawndelay="1.1" time="Night" entitygroup="EnemyAnimalsForest" spawnDeadChance="0" /> </biome>

5 game days off the top of my head. Timers may not run if the area isn't loaded.
This is in the xml data, so it can be modded. The wasteland is an exception to the rule, as with a19 the developer changed it so that zeds respawn instantly when you are there at night.

Yeah, someone in another thread thought the night time wasteland spawns was a bug. They just kept coming. Damn observant those ferals.

... for my part, talking about the game here now, i am kind of tired of what i think of as a glitch when doing a trader mission at sham factory. i've gone there, twice, and twice there were as many zombies as you'd expect to see on horde night, even tho it wasn't. has anyone else seen this glitch?...

Yeah, respawndelay at night in the wasteland is 0, instant respawn. During the day it's 0.3 days.

<spawn maxcount="1" respawndelay="0.3" time="Day" entitygroup="ZombiesAll" />
<spawn maxcount="3" respawndelay="0" time="Night" entitygroup="ZombiesWastelandNight" />

So, I did a test. I reverted back to my last backup before modding the spawning (and removed the mod), and then drove out from Diersville in a big loop to visit all the traders. I saw a wondering horde just after driving past the last trader on my way home. I saw no other zombies. There may have been some off to the side I didn't see.

Reverted again, re-installed the mod, and drove the exact same loop again. This time I saw 48 zombies.

Yeah, I think it's bugged and has nothing to do with not exploring enough.
