Keyboard input lag on Ubuntu
I've been playing for a couple weeks now and I've noticed a very frustrating keyboard input lag. I say it's a keyboard input lag because when I walk or run for a couple minutes (holding W for a while), then let up, my character keeps going. How long it keeps going depends on how long I held the key and I've had it go for a solid 30 seconds before. In the meantime I can still move the mouse and change where I am looking and going (not graphics lag).

I've tried a different keyboard, but it acts the same. I'm running Ubuntu 16.4.

This has made me die a couple times and I would really appreciate some help fixing this. Thanks!

have the same problem on Ubuntu 18.04. The problem seems to be the keyboard-repeat (long press repeats the character). here is how I fixed it:

1) start game
2) switch to terminal window
3) xset r off
4) switch to game

it only works after the game has started, as the game resets it.
type 'xset r on' after the game, to restore default keyboard behavior.

This is a simple fix, the game should probably do on its own.

Thanks for this work-around. I recently started getting this problem for no obvious reason.

This workaround does not work natively with Ubuntu 24.04 anymore. Since `xset r off` is a tool to configure the X11 display server and Ubuntu now 24.04 comes with Wayland as default you cannot use it to disable auto key repeat. This is also the case for any other Wayland based Linux distribution.

Fortunately one can switch back to X11 by clicking on the gear icon in the login screen of Ubuntu.

I have not yet found an alternative to `xset r off` for Wayland.

Also, if anyone is interested. It's easy in Ubuntu to define Hotkeys even for console commands. In the Keyboard section of the Ubuntu Settings create custom hotkeys and put `xset r on` respectively `xset r off` into the command field and choose any keystroke. I put off at Alt- and on at Alt+ to quickly disable/enable autorepeat.
