I havent had that issue, but I have heard others say the same. Check the official forums, maybe a known bug.

In options check your gamma setting.

You prolly jacked it up for nighttime and 4got to turn it back down lol

I've done all of the above multiple times. I think there is a bug for the brightness settings make it so the map UI can only go up.

I smell a patch coming real soon so I'll just wait and see what happens. Also running into the perma-infection bug also :(

Default gamma is way too high and makes everything waaaay too bright. I have mine set to 30% and it looks a lot better.

It's not his gamma. I hit the same issue. The brightness is in the map of the menu system only, no other menu, and not the normal first person camera.

Exiting and restarting fixed it for me though, which is why I suggested it.

I have that to. Was fine when i started but then I got a lag spike when traveling an since the lag is horribly bright. Also makes buildings way in the distance light up in the night like a spot light until i relog. Both im private game an public lobby. I assume is a bug

I had the problem too. Its a bug. Randomly happens. I had the same settings before and after it happened. Nothing I did or change made it go away. It went away on its own but then comes back whenever.

So I got bored and fiddled with the gamma again and then messed with the background opaque settings... rebooted the game and then it was fixed.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm having this bug too, this is very annoying.

The map issue is from one of the following: too many torches nearby, quit/logout and join while holding torches or items with burning mod.

Workaround: move away from nearby torches, make sure to unequip any torches or items with burning mod installed (possibly flame arrows as well). Log in/out 1-3 times checking map till issue clears.

Thanks, it seems to fix it :)

It's been over a year and this still happens... :(

I am playing Alpha 18.4 (b4). Moving away from light sources and relogging to the world a couple of times didn't help. I had to actually shut down the game for the issue to go away.
