Can't craft Forged Iron

I placed the clay and the iron in the 2 smeltings slots in the forge i click on the recipe and it won't work i have fuel aswell

You have to turn the forge on with some sort of fuel and smelt them first. Then the numbers on the right go from 0 to however much you smelt. Then those are the ingredient you use

You have to add the materials to your forge first. Put your iron and clay in the open spots under smelting then turn on your forge. You'll see the materials begin to collect inside the forge, once you have enough smelted you can craft your forged iron.
