My Character reset itself?!
I logged off last night and came on today, and when I loaded up my save world, my character was fresh, I could see all the map I had explored up until today, however none of my placed waypoints were on the map. My characters level reset to 1 and it played the tutorial again... and i lost everything in my inventory. What I had built up to that point however, seems to have stayed. HOW CAN I FIX THIS?!

Make sure you have persistent profiles enabled and that you did not log on as a new toon.

If that is not it read "How to Report an Issue" (the pinned thread) provide the info outlined there and we can get to sorting out the issue.

i have that enabled so not the problem. and i would love to report the issue but with my learning disorder all that is written there that tells you how to report an issue is way beyond what i can understand. i started reading it and got so confused.

To sum it up.

You need to provide your system specifications (OS,CPU,GPU,RAM amount)

Any crash logs get uploaded to pastebin (for free) and linked here.

So far as how to create such a log I cannot simply that anymore than in that thread. Which is as follows

Use the following procedure to reproduce the problem:
First Exit the game or make sure the game is not running.
Start the game. Do NOT ALT+TAB.
Reproduce the problem.
Exit the game.
In the steam client.
Right Click 7 Days To Die and select properties
Click the Local Files Tab
Click the Browse local files button.
double-click the \7DaysToDie_Data\ folder
open output_log.txt Or the latest output_log_<DATETIME>.txt where <DATETIME> is the last date/time found in the filename.
Copy all the contents {CTRL+A then CTRL+C}
paste the contents to http://pastebin.com
Include the link to that paste.

Good luck.

if you are on SP, you can restore your character from backup.

go to;
C:>users>[yourname]>AppData>Roaming>7DaysToDie>Saves>Random Gen (or navezgane)>[mapname]>player

you will then see a file named "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.ttp" (xxx's being your player ID)
and a file named "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.ttp.bak".

delete the file that contains only the ".ttp" then change the extension of the ".ttp.bak" file to ".ttp".

You should now be able to restart the game and load in your character.
It may be at a slightly lower lever, or in a different location that when you left it, depending on how far back the previous save was.

I may suggest either learning about PC's then or sticking to console gaming in that case,

Huh... This bug is still happening today. Just ran into this issue. My base was still intact and my bed was still set, but I was level one clean wiped on a single player world.
Also just checked where I was when I logged off and no Backpack sadly...
Genuinely gonna stop playing this game after that. I just can't believe this is actually a thing that can happen

In game's main menu....options....player profiles.....check that your preferred character is in fact the one selected.......sometimes it may get reset to the default start profile.....(I think it's clint but been awhile.) Also, be sure in settings that you have 'persistent profiles' enabled.

Reviving this thread to say it's happened to me twice now. Game crashed my computer, load back in, character deleted. The backup file solution doesn't work because as soon as you load in it overwrites it. Persistent profiles is enabled, and the right character is selected. Pretty infuriating when you've spent literal days building up your skills and character and now have to waste 45 gosh darned (because heaven forbid you say a minor swear word) minutes of your time cheating your character back to it's previous state, which will never be exactly as it was.

PC crashes are most commonly down to hardware and/or drivers. It's probably more fair to say "PC crashed when I was playing" than "Game crashed my computer". Start with Windows Event Viewer and 7's crash logs and go from there.
