Other way around.
Cause you know these sounds had to come from somewhere irl. Someone recorded a dog whimpering edited it a bit and violla.

Same as smacking a wrench on a radio tower support cable is where the Star Wars laser blaster sounds came from. (I am not joking)

he's not kidding, that's really where they got the sound from. And the reloading sound is partly a coin operated parking meter being cranked around.

Actually Tie fighters sound like dogs. Lucas got in quite a bit of hot water over that one, but it was a different time back then and there was no other way to get good sound effects.

Similarly, Battlestar Galactica's Cyclon Raiders were actually just the sounds of pigeons flying a raiding mission:
