Your favourite POI for base-building?
Assuming you aren't the type of person who prefers building areas from absolute scratch, what are your favourite POIs for base-building?

Speaking for myself, I used to live inside the Industrial Tanks (Clunky Oil Containers). If you find a non-broken tank near a trader, you can hollow out the inside for starting sand+stone and turn it into a big storage facility or workstation, and convert the top layer into a zombie death-trap, or the bottom into a grounded bunker-window style.

However, I've since fallen in love with the Power Distribution Station. It's a small 5-6 squared concrete building with a small sub-level, perfect for turning into a standard ground-level bunker and storage/workshop for the early game, or a mid/late-game last resort.

Besides it, you have three power cords connected between two high towers, which can be converted into a zombie control centre for Bloodmoon. As in, you can build a bunker on one end of the wire tower, add ladders to the opposite tower, and watch the zombies spend most of their time falling off the thin wires trying to get to your bunker, and anything that gets close can be punted off with a good hit.

If all else fails, you can jump onto the smaller building mentioned above, or if you have the materials, expand it into multiple safety buildings.

Thanks to being right beside the first building - and typically having plenty of space (or other POIs) beside it, you can set up a playground or other styles of bases of your choosing. It's also surrounded by sturdy walls and fences, so it's hard for strays to wander in while you're setting everything up.

Overall, it's a nice and relatively clean location that can be customized in numerous ways - primarily concrete, cobble, or metal - and all you need to do at the start is destroy the broken wall and turn it into a bunker window. You can decide whether to keep (or fill in) the metal door on the side, whether you want to convert the lower level into a workstation or safety bunker, and how you want to set up the higher-level death traps outside.

It's probably not the best super-end-game location for giga-hordes of special zombies, but it has plenty of potential, and I find it hard to deny as a starting area.

What about you? Is there a preset location you find yourself moving into regularly? Or do you prefer to build something from the ground up?

Grain Silo - Can be made into a horde smashing fortress with ease

I always used to built bunkers but after they nerfed the effectiveness of them in A15 iirc i have only ever built up

There's a couple of houses I like to use, because I like my base to feel like home :D

Fire Station 7 my favourite POI, I build on the second floor and take out the stairs and I convert the garage to a functional garage for my vehicles. I usually build a separate horde night base but I still build a perimeter defence for the other 6 days of the week.

And a full crop garden on the roof after I level it out. :)

Creep Church is the best

You basically can't beat the grain silos. The long narrow structure on top is an OP raid base.

I like to use trailers or small remnant buildings.
I too have use the the small Power Distribution Station as well as a nice small blank slate.

currently... home base is .... A pirate ship... buccaneers poi. AAYYEE!!!

working on the horde base built in the basketball court as its a great blank space to work with.
and have used it well in the past https://youtu.be/xDiRBPnc3qo

also like the garage above the lift to the bunker house. nice and tight and concreted walls.

generally concrete walls half destroyed buildings is my go to.

I like the look of the new poopypants day care... rounded watch tower... so can see that being something i will work on in the future.

Last Party House. Señor Drogas House or Taylor Mansion. Taylor's has a large basement for stations and nice wall.

Any building with 5k base blocks and a flat, full block roof.

I found a little place called Navezgane Diner. It's a pretty basic rectangular building, with a table/eating area, kitchen, and a little bit of backroom storage.

The best part is, it's made out of concrete. Once you clear all the booths, there's plenty of room for building stations and storage. You just have to seal up the windows with bars and windows because those are the weak spots in the building, inherently. And another great part is that there's some flat roof areas at the top that is ideal for placing dew collectors. I just repainted the front and made it look a little bit less like a restaurant:)

It was at a great spot in my randomly generated map also. It was only about 200 m from the trader, and on the outskirts of town.

just going on title as the wall of text was TLDR

but i tell people enver build in a POI just to many issues with them from devs cheesing there builds to cheat the gravity and zombies path finding is very hard to guide them into a killing hallway

The Mauseleum is always a solid option for a crafting base. Clear out the zeds, and you have a concrete wall around your base for free, plenty of space for dew collectors and farming if that's your thing, and a large enough underground area for all your crafting and storage needs.

Can even make a decent horde base, since at least you're going to funnel everyone through the main entrance, so you can set up a kill corridor at your convenience.

Since Alpha 19 I've been partial to the block house at the Cell Tower for early game. The square concrete building is easy to reinforce and defend, and has enough space for storage. I clear the yard of debris, take down the chain link fences, and set up a choke point defense at the door. It works good for the first few blood moons until I can build a custom base. In Alpha 21 I've started setting up in the power substation mentioned in an earlier post. I've even dug down and built an underground workshop and living space. I have a separate structure for the blood moons. Long term I typically build a kill corridor for hordes and an underground base for living / crafting / storage.

I have never used POI as the game could wipe your base if you get a trader mission at that POI. Is that still a thing?
