Any way to barricade yourself into a house?

So I've made a bunch of metal wall pieces but the game won't allow me to use them to barricade up around doors and or some other objects like some walls.

I've tried grabbing a bunch of furniture to try to barricade in front of doors, but the game only allows me to place one item in front of the door and not pile on stuff to actually barricade and create a safe house.

I guess I don't see much purpose to creating those metal walls out of scrap metal if I can't actually use them for anything other than putting them on windows. What self respecting zombie is going to stand there pounding on a barricaded window when there is a perfectly inviting door right next to it.

Think of it like this, each block in the world can only accept one item in it, regardless of its volume. So if there's already something in one block - it's occupied by that object, move to the next block (above it, to the left of it etc').

Also don't use scrap metal walls/sidings, it's a waste of good resources. Just use the boarded windows (when you just start) made from plywood, they're relatively durable for something as common as plywood. Then switch to cobblestone.

If say a curtain is near a window just break it so you can put a block in front of the window or if you want the whole window then just break the window itself. Some items interfere where placing so all you need to do is fine what blocking it.

It can be frustrating when you have a decent idea and soon as you get near end of it bam you have to figure round it.

Also yeah as ankh said metal scraps are more handy for other stuff esspecially making iron ingots. These can make shovels/pickaxes etc
