Sleeping or doing something at night.
Is there anything to do at night time? Can't really venture out of the stronghold at night unless you want to spend tons of ammo fending off the very dangerous night hordes. It'd be great if we could use the sleeping bag to sleep through the night. Right now I'm just hiding in my basement stronghold listening to the hordes outside trying to claw their way in.

My pickaxe broke at dawn so I can't continue my freshly started mine. Can't go out to get sticks for a new pickaxe because the horde is crazy.

Any way to kill off the zombies? They seem to swarm the place at night, but stick around even after it turns daylight.

Ye this is also my issue , 15min of gathering / repairing and other stuff ... Than nightfall comes and i'm Afk'ing in my basecamp for the next 15min.

Reducing the time cycle isn't helping much since than i can barely venture out before it gets dark again. I wouldn't mind a shorter night and a longer day.

You know the length of day/night is up to the creator of the map or server right?

For the first 2-3 nights, I work on crafting. I go through and see what recipes I can make and put them in the crafting window just so I have the recipe memorized for future reference (don't actually make the item). By third or fourth night, I have an underground mine started so I dig for stone, iron, and lead.

If i have little to do, i quit the game and reload it with the 24h timer set to 10 mins. This gets night time over in about 4 mins. Then a quit again, and set the 24 timer to 120 mins.

Hunt in the desert my friend, its the best time. its much cooler and you wont die of heat exhaustion. You also use less water.
i use the longest days 120 max cycles.

Kill them chop up the bodies to not lure more in as it stinks up the place! gid rid of garbage piles and anything that reeks in the area you live or have it well defended. Keep meat in fridges not containers!

My first night I spend tunneling under the house I am hold up in. I make tunnels out from the house to a tower (I build around day 4-5) another to an exit / entrance, and another to a garden. So right there is 3 tunnels to make at night....even without a mining helmet, you can use your torch on the walls.

If I am done tunneling (gather repair materials during the day so you won't have broken tools at night) I use the night to cook, smelt and I keep 1 empty wooden chest just to unload all my loot from the day. A quick unload then back at it until dark. When it gets dark I sort all the loot in that chest and again, cook, smelt, arrange loot into the proper container.

Basically I don't do anything in my base during the day. I stay out and explore, loot, gather materials. When inventory is full, I run back, empty pack into chest, then exit and continue....Save everything you do in a base for night time.

Got the game about 4 days ago and yeah, the first couple nights I've just basically have been hiding in the bathroom in pitch black darkness, alt + tabbed out of the game and browsing internet/youtube until I hear the chime that it's 6am again :D

The zombies can hear you crafting/repairing stuff right? As well as opening the zipper in your backpack to check your inventory?

Until I have an upgraded inpenetrable fortress, the rest of my nights are just sitting in the pitch black bathroom corner.

Find a minning helmet. Great for night hunting. I could careless about these meatbags thats what im here for, to cut them up!
Don't use fire touchs, they dehydrate you quickly, try and find or build a flashlight or minning helmet. Night hunting is some of the best hunting due to weather conditions and extream heat.
Learn to use the darkness to your advantage.
