"Could not connect to server: ConnectionFailed" - How to fix this?

Me and a friend were playing the game just fine last night.

Today this error shows up every time we try to log on to the game from last night.

Workaround (but not really):
You can 'fix' this for yourself by pressing ` (tilde key) to open up Console, then simply click the Close button on console (bottom right of console window. This lets YOU continue to play the game, but if you try to invite a friend (via Steam) they can not connect.

Some steps we tried:

1. Starting a new game as "Private" works fine, no error messages.

2. Starting a new game as "Public" generates error message as seen in the title.

3. Attempting to "Continue game" and open a game which was started as "Public" generates error message as seen in the title.

You can bypass the Connection Failed error message by opening Console and then closing it. The error message in the Console states:

4.954: The connection request to 97.74.94.187:50005 failed. Are you sure the server can be connected to?

To me this seems like it is trying to list your public game to some kind of server that handles server browsing / listing, but that server is not responding... so it kicks back an error message for the Public games, but not the Private ones?

I'm just guessing at this point, but that is what we found so far...

I was playing the game last night with a friend. Trick was to start a public game with no password (just limit it on max players), then open Steam friends and invite your friend.

But today we have this ConnectionFailed error... :)

I'm having this issue. We were playing over LAN and now neither of us can host or join due to this error.

The game doesn't like some NAT routers, i.e. such as my Billion7800 ... I had the exact same problems as you listed... only workaround I know of is for someone else to host the server atm... http://steamcommunity.com/app/251570/discussions/0/648814396020988242/

Ledian, not sure this is the case.

Yesterday I hosted a game and my friend connected to it just fine. Then this morning when we start up the game we get this connection error.

So something has happened between yesterday and today... no idea what.

Probably a problem with the master server. I hope it will get fixed today!

I think the game did get patched over night, and the Dev has said in the latest version release notes that some routers are not working when hosting. I did try the game less then an hour ago with a friend and he can't join my private or public server, and I can't even join my own public server without the failed to connect msg. But I can join my mates private server... So yer the game needs some work.

I can start a server playing with a friend online... but after 30-60 minutes i get the error and from then on, I can't start it anymore... happened to me like 3 times now.... playable for a while... and then its gone :( I really want to advance... playin the first 30 minutes is awesome but, damn I want more... its 7 days, not 1 day ;)

I'm getting the same here too. I was playing with a friend tonight for an hour or so then we were both kicked. Tried rejoining and started getting the connection errors - then we tried both rebooting our systems and still no luck. Perhaps the servers are overloaded? I don't know if whoever hosts the game actually PHYSICALLY hosts the game, but I know for a fact some kind of connection to 7D2D servers is required. Anyone got any more info that could be helpful, please jump in. Thanks

Got the same prob and i played the game the last days online on my public game with some other players. It seems something is messed up but not on the user side... we need a fix asap
