Wood spikes OP?
I don't recall wooden spikes being overly good, just decent early game. I'm playing on default difficulty with 6 players and we just survived our first bloodmoon. A pretty high numbers of zombies yet not a single one reached the walls... a one layer of spikes around teh house just killed them all. Barely a scratch on the spikes too.

Another thing I noticed is that all zombies INSTANTLY died when touching a spike, just falling over.

Was it buffed? Is it normal? It just made the blood moon feel VERY underwhelming lol

spike traps are really pointless. they break way to fast.

im guessing you are playing a very easy setting.

like I said, playing on default difficulty
Most people dont even bother with spikes anymore, I have not used them since the dumb zombies were changed (not like the smart path finding zombies we now have) as spikes are not needed, just need a raised corridor and something to stop the path, hatches, bars etc.

But spikes used to be pretty OP back then too, but they were buffed and nerfed a few times a long the way.

Give it a few weeks and the zeds will just scoff at the spikes.

i been playing on insane spikes are great but they are replaced by electric fences and blade traps down the road. My biggest issue with them is they give no exp on zombie death however

im on warrior and most zombies make it through the spikes and they break after a few. still usefull sometimes to slow them

TL;DR: Wood Spikes can kill 2.7 regular zombies, Iron Spikes can kill 7.

I'm on default difficulty and the Wood Spikes seem pretty normal (I role-played a character in A21 who only killed using Wood Spikes, so I feel expert in this field in that version). They're a bit stronger since a21 (they had 3 breaking-graphics, each hit dropped them a stage, 2 hits to kill regular Z (400XP variety)), but it doesn't seem like a large change (they now have 2 breaking-graphics, but each lasts 4 hits, 3 hits to kill a regular Z (each hit is 33 damage to a non-armored player)).

Iron Spikes do the same damage, but have 3 breaking-graphics that survive for 7 hits each.

You can even pile spikes. They are balanced by the fact they don't give XP.
Wood Is infinite and you don't even need to search It since you can chop next your base.
One line of them Is not much deal.

Spikes definitely do more damage then they used to. Still not enough to stop most blood moons completely, but it will take care of the ones you can't see/shoot.

Also they are GREAT for killing screamers. In my current playthrough, I've had about a dozen screamers killed by the spikes before I could even find them to shoot them.

I use them on hardest difficulty and they really help in certain situations. We have iron versions around the horde base pillars too.

Using them willy nilly is on the same level as using building blocks to escape/get to areas imo - kinda necessary if you're me!

If you die, you lose all xp/levels/items/skills, so we try to prevent that.

I am all about the willy nilly spike placement, what is funny to me though is I would have figured this was the original intention of our current barbwire barricade things.

I think it was the Undead Legacy, or Classic Hardcore mod that forced you to tappy tap your spikes once or twice to get them to the initial stage, making them far more "static", while you could place and then pick up the barb wire barricades making them useful for roaming.

Yeah they shouldn't die instantly touching a spike. I laid my first spikes as part of that tutorial mission and ran a zombie over it a few times at one point. It never killed the zombie. I ended up just stabbing it. They should have to sit on it or touch it multiple times to die.

But they are OP if you are looking to just survive. They suck in the fact that you don't get xp for the kills.

The only time I use spikes on a consistent basis is for horde bases to fend off vultures until I get some turrets and power. I don't think I'eve ever seen them be that reliable against regular zombies.

The cost and hassle to keep replacing them is not worth it, especially given all the XP you lose by using them.
