Generally their own sounds are a lot worse than the unity assets they had. Hazmat and Lumberjack sound the same and every time i hear them i wanna make them chamomille tea because they sound like they have stomach pain.

I thought he was going to sound like a tough redneck, but he sounds like an estate agent. The voice actor does not do a bad job, but he does not sound like somebody living an apocalypse with all shotgun shells strapped on. He needs to smoke a few more cigars.

Exactly. He's a good voice actor, but there is a reason 80% of his roles are "additional voices" and the rest single episode characters.

It just sounds mixed badly. Sometimes some of the vocal samples sound distorted. I think I'd rather just turn em off.

There's too much blabbing when you are locked into dialogue and trade window.

The original voice really was 10x better.

Unless they are going to update / change the NPC character model in a future patch to a small nerdy looking used car salesmen, I don't know wtf they were thinking.

Joel is now a very cheesy salesman, the sort of person you absolutely wouldn't buy a used car from. Or anything, really, as they obviously can't be trusted.

I'm not blaming the voice actor. They might well have done a good job of voicing the character they were hired to voice. I don't know because I don't know what they were told about who the character was and how TFP wanted the character voiced.

What I do know is that it's a radical change from the previous Joel and completely mismatched to the character's appearance. Which is identical to the previous Joel, who was a completely different character. There's no explanation for that. Which isn't surprising, given the lack of lore in the game.

Here's my suggestion for a retcon;

The previous Joel was killed by The Duke. A different person in the White River faction took over and took on the name as a sort of title. Trader Joel is dead, long live Trader Joel.

Which one did they get rid of? The angry one or the obsequious one who was WAAAY too chill (which I understand...end of the world...time to hit the relaxing herb). Not the WAY too cheery lady either.

Thank the dev that stood it for the voice actor. Now give him a rugged voice. Macho man Randy Savage would be great.
