I don't mind underwear (even if i find those black thong ugly) but for immersion purposes, not every survivor could have been jumped on by zombie while wearing underwear.
If you really insisted on the need to spawn in underwear you do not choose, makes no sense at all to pick THIS particular piece of clothing for women since it's "daily" worn by like 1% of women, make that 5% if it was for a "special" evening or so. ( strapless bras and thongs main purpose is to wear a form fitting dress with bare shoulders, mostly "formal dressed evening" wear )
So yeah, remove the men briefs and put them in leopard thongs, because it's clearly a "regular piece of men clothing" according to the same standards, right ? ;)
On a side note , the people who say they don"t care or this issue should be ignored amaze me. They fail to provide a single good reason why thongs should be in instead of more casual underwear. WHY is it SO important to you that it's not changed if you don't care in the first place ? There's basically NO reason at all for thongs except " T&As for horny male crowd". But then why not play Lollypop chainsaw or games like that, to satisfy those needs ? What's desperately so important in having female player in 7DTD wear thongs at spawning, that would absolutely ruin your gameplay experience if it was changed ? Guess what ? nothing. Or T&As, but then admit it instead of BSing about feminism or any kind of makeshift excuse.
7DTD is a game where you have to use wooden frames to pour concrete in, and then wait for it to dry. Every gameplay mechanism or element is trying to be related to its real life counterpart, = "serious" game. This has nothing to do with feminism or anything. Thongs instead of regular undies are like My Little Ponies instead of deers. I'm sure it would be funny and even amazing for some people, but it clearly belongs to mods, not to vanilla.
So first of all, I 100% agree with the above. Both ideas are excellent, people should start the game in more substantial clothing AND there should be some choices in regards to every type of clothing, even underwear.
This I only marginally agree with, however. I'll agree that it's not the most popular style of underwear I've seen, but of the women I know whose underwear I have some knowledge of, the percentage of those who wear thongs on a frequent basis is far greater than 1% or 5%. I'd put it closer to 30-40%. But of course my personal knowledge (or yours) is hardly an authoritative sample, so I tried to google "women's underwear sales statistics" and similar things -- I didn't find anything really informative. Do you have a source for any solid information on this?
Also all these idiots saying "my avatar is an extension of myself" this isn't SECOND LIFE. grow up ffs
I agree they should be in tattered clothing. My reasoning is different and I think the same way about all survival games. Maybe I'm just over thinking it but it's not realistic for someone in a survival situtation to be running around in underwear or as in the case with Rust no clothes at all.
Oh I'm sure that most women own at least a thong or two, thats not the problem. Thing is, it's not a practical undie to wear at all. I'm a 35 y.o woman who likes pretty lingerie and I have drawers full of. I almost never wear thongs, except for those special form fitting dresses or skirts ( or some pants ). It's not hygienic, not comfortable. You only wear that for a special purpose, some clothes like i said, or to try to be "sexy" or something. It's like 5 inches stilettos, sure you might see a couple women walk with those in the morning, or at work. But most women will wear smaller heels, or flats. And frankly if you wanted to be sexy, there are things far more sexier than thongs. Hell i'm even sure on a daily basis there are more women wearing teddies than thongs. One could also say that since 2006 or so, thongs are totally "has-been" on a fashion level but that's another story since we don"t know in what year 7DTD takes place.
Imagine you go on some community forum and the people there ( mostly women ) are telling you that the standard or frequent male underwear is leopard thongs. You'll just tell them "nope sorry, not like that irl despite how much you'd love to ". And you wouldnt have to back it up with statistical evidence, you'd know that everyday people go for comfy undies, not sexy ones. ( especially uncomfortable ones ! )
There's no very precise backstory in 7DTD, characters are "average joes & janes" so you have to go with average underwear if you want things to be coherent and credible. Average woman underwear is not thongs. Thongs make it kinda look like a game for horny teens, and a lot of people have already expressed that it feels cheap, immature, and breaks immersion. It adds nothing, and takes away some of the ambiance the game is trying to set everywhere else.
It's already borderline with giant hornets for some people, but one could argue that hornets are interesting because it adds a flying enemy and thus has gameplay and tactical repercussions. Thongs though ? adds nothing, except annoyance/siliness for some, and T&As eyecandy for others. Both are not needed in vanilla, and can be covered by mods or options. Just like MLP for deers :)
Edit Ahh let me not forget male cirsumcison.
Again.
This is a placeholder to indicate to a new player that "hey, you need to find some clothing".
Does it seem a bit crude or unfinshed? Yes.
Because this is an unfinished game.
A better solution would be to start the player out in tatered shorts and a t-shirt.
Then display a text prompt stating "find some clothes" so new players understand their options.
Again.
TFP didn't convene a secret meeting in their underground lair and cackle about ways to offend people.
If they didn't care then they wouldn't have released a patch that added fiber pants to the recipe system a couple of days later.
Either that or everyone you play as was having a shower and needed to escape ASAP... Yeah I kinda agree... I love the game but... maybe a more mature approach? :)
The problem that we're all laboring under here is that we really have no plot on which to base our opinions about this feature.
1. There was a nuclear exchange.
2. There was a viral outbreak.
3. Zombies happened.
4. We play as survivors.
5. You have no clothes. (?)
Since we don't have a plot, we don't really know how we got here in the first place.
Connecting #5 with #1-4 is going to be a logical stretch without a solid plot.
Fair enough, point taken, and apologies if it seemed like I was demanding statistical evidence; it was more a case of wondering if you knew something specific that I hadn't seen/found.
No worries ! :)
