Minimum requirements hosting my own server?
I have an old AMD E-350 computer with 8 gigs of ram. Will this be enough to host a 7 days to die server? How many people do you think it can support?

Are there min requirements or recommend requirements for a server?

I run one with up to 8 people and no lag on an i7 950 clocked to 3.8ghz and 6 gigs of ram and also play off the same machine(join on my own server). Not sure about that AMD. Is it quad core? It may run totally fine .Not sure .Also I only run the server from time to time with friends. Its not a 24/7 server

Your internet bandwidth plays a role as well. You can use sites like http://www.speedtest.net/ to get a general idea of your allocated limits.

It's a dual core machine, definitely no where as strong as a i7. It uses way less power and it's something I leave on all year long for my downloads along with other stuff.

As for bandwidth I get 135 Mbps download and 5.60 Mps upload. Not sure if the upload is good or not for hosting

That should be more then enough for hosting a server for you and your friends.

A duel core may be fine. Not sure on that.Is it your main computer rig? If its a backup rig and you want to use it as a dedicated server ,your likely just as well off using your main rig as the server and play on the same machine. Like I said,My i7 950 will run the server in the background as well as the main game with only 6 gigs.50mbps connection on the east coast(Maine) and ive also had a couple people join from overseas. Just really not sure about the duel core vs quadcore. For you and a few friends I wouldn't be surprised if it works fine.If your using a duel core cpu and trying to run dedicated and play on it you may run into trouble(not sure). If you need any help with port forwarding issues or multiple rigs online let me know. I've gone through the growing pains of it already lol

BTW I think sometimes location and a little luck has to do with hosting a good server. There was a time my connection was nowere near 50mbps and not nearly as good with upload yet I have always been able to host games. Maybe its less network tarffic up here in the sticks ? :) .Like I said I've had 8 on in 7dtd and nobody complaining of lag but like I said. It is not a 24/7 server and only hosting through the night. That makes a huge difference on your rig requirements.24/7 may need a lot more ram and all that to keep running

It's not my main rig, it's my "download ♥♥♥♥♥" computer and I've ran Terraria servers off it with no issues. I like using it for downloading and such because it doesn't eat much power unlike my my main computer which is a 8 core i7. I don't even want to know how much power my i7 will eat if I leave it on 24/7. I'll let you know if I need help with port forwarding! Thanks!

I would think 16 gigs would be enough but I guess I'll give a try soon.

Are you running alloc fixes and frontrunnertek's 7dtd server manager on your server?

No I just run the server files with game. Its all very easy once youve done it a couple times. For you and your friends just wanting to have a well performing stable rig for 7dtd I would run your new I7 .It will perform better and with all that ram you won't have problems. Like I said, My old i7950 with only 6 gigs runs fine all night long with the friends and I. No lag or problems on there end. Running a seperate system is a waste of time and likely give you less performance than your 8 core I7. I'm nearly 100% sure of that. Any good quadcore I know runs the game totally fine as long as settings are set to medium in the graphics control panel in game.gtx780 and its fine as long as graphics are set not maxed. I also did a lot of map editing and custom prefabs I put in back in the day and no issues so i've put this game through the ringer on dedicated server with very minimum. You have a more powerful computer with more ram. Just run it on your I7 ;) .Try the dedicated on your main system so you work through the headaches of port forwarding and whatever.Once you get it working there ,then run a dedciated on your lesser system. Just less headaches to get started imo.Once you know what your doing then you can run the other system and compare to see if its good enough for you and your friends OR 24/7.jmo

My server usually has around 12 to 15 people and we don't have a problem .I'm running a AMD 1100t with 8Gb or ram on Time Warner internet (300 down, 20 up) With windows 8.1, we're using around 43% of the ram and the CPU normally stays around 40%or less.

to you all runnning your own servers i used to but all of a sudden i cant with one acount???? i want to have a dedi server box and play on my gaming comp can I ???

Is a decent GPU required? I was hoping not as it shouldn't have to render anything (right?). Had the thought of putting the server on my older Linux machine instead of hosting myself.

I have to agree, the real silent killer is your "ISP"... You can have a Super PC, built by [Skynet] and it would still lagg out if your Interenet sucks balls lol. But would be awesome!

Its not about how many cores, as 7 days is not multi threaded and runs on 1 core. With that said you could run 7 days on a pentium 3 if it had 3.6ghz core. 3.6ghz i5 running a dedicated server with 20 ppl should have no issues
