Most effective way to attract zombies?
Firing a single gunshot? Or lighting a campfire all night near your base? I hate it when the server is full. Because then there are almost no zombies for me left to spawn :/

Having a campfire or forge on the go seemed to work before the latest patch. Since then I haven't really attracted many to my base, just found them out on my travels.

Your best bet is fires and forges. Light a bunch of them and use stuff that burns fast like sticks. When the Scouts come let them yell.. but do not kill them. The longer they live the more zeds they will call in to your location.
Lots and lots of campires/forges lit, it generates a heatmap anytime you have them lit for your chunk (area). Should trigger hordes to attack you.

If you mean how to lure zombies to you instead of alerting all of them, you can throw small rocks at them. Try it, it's quite comical especially with how new/buggy it is :P

Keep raw/cooked meat on your tool bar. That alerts any zombie within sixty blocks that there's something worth investigating.
Also, use a shotgun to dispose of the ones that come over. It's really noisy.

or move to an unexplored regio.. preferably unexplored wasteland and or city.... go there, fire a single shot (shotgun or magnum preferred).....=> zombies a plenty :)

i tried putting 24 campfires down and just lighting them all, this attracts loads of zeds but since this new update patch once the zeds appear it keeps bringing up the console with error messages, by the time you clear the console it pops up again, so this is not recommended. Best is just fire about 10 to 15 shots into the air they will come and as its forced you will again get them spawning inside yours base on the roof etc etc
Tried it all, 0 zombies. Had 2 different types of raw meat with me. 10 campfires with sticks, all night long: 0 zombies. Also fired a few shotgun rounds. Just unlucky :/

Yes if I walk around I find them. But I want to shoot them from my bunker.

So my guess would be that your MP server is bugged and not spawning zeds properly. Have your server admin reboot the server that should reset the spawns.

Reason this can happen is TFP put in code that if a horde spawns and heads in a players direction but that player leaves the area without dealing with the horde than the horde will be unloaded with that map chunk and will still be there still to deal with if someone revisits the chuck. This well delay any other hordes from spawning because it's also coded that only a certain number of zeds/hordes can exist at any given time even if said zeds are in an unloaded state.

As I understand it it's also entirely possible you've wiped out the spawns for a certain number of days. Kind of like how you can kill every zombie in a town and it'll be totally empty for several days until they start to slowly respawn.

Much the same way as it's possible to overhunt animals and have them wiped out for days on end too.

Can wipe out a zone for a few days as some said.

Most likely it is like our MP when there are 25+ on and the Z spawn is only 80 or 100 your just going to have to wait until some die and they actually CAN pop since only that many can be up at one time.
That can be not very many Z's per person if you have even half those people being active spawners, or have a horde spawned, or just ran thrrough an area and didnt kill the pops.
Going to have to wait until the spawn slots open for some.

Yeah. A .357 is a zombie magnet in the Wasteland Biome.
No matter how hot your heatmap is to spawn zeds, sometimes they just might not trigger especially if you have the zone wiped out and other players are online with more active heatmaps.

The max amount of zombies in any given area by default is 50. if you want more you need to increase this number (any greater then 80 will cause frames to drop especially at max settings.

server was restarted. i got now... 4 zombies total!

I even went to town (same chunk) and set up fires there. Nothing.

Indeed I killed loads (~200 I guess) earlier today in my chunk.. I guess I farmed my chunk dry :(

I must setup new bases on other chunks. Will it be sufficient if I setup 3 bases next to each other at the river-crossing of 3 biomes? Or maybe a big one in the center of the river that covers 3 chunks :P

Well i fyou want zombies and If you are on a Random Gen map than just got to the Central zone.. kill a few zeds and soon you'll have more then you know what to do with.

The heatmap should trigger Spider Zombie scouts, regardless of how recently you've killed all the zombies in an area. If the those zombies aren't spawning then the server is screwed up somehow or possibly the max zombie spawn has already been reached and there aren't any free spots for more. If other players are actively killing zombies that shouldn't be a problem, but it is also possible someone has a full horde camping under their stilt base that they aren't killing.
