Using the 7 Days to Die Dedicated server tool from Steam..
Hello all,

I recently downloaded the dedicated server tool for 7 days to die, but I am not all that great with servers and am not quite sure what to do. I opened it up, waited the 9 seconds then it said press any key to continue, I did, and the command screen disappeared and appeared to be a background process.

What I'm unsure of is what to do next. How do I actually do anything with this server? Connect to it? Set up server rules etc? Do I need to keep the game open 24 hrs a day?

Is there a good tutorial for this? I would appreciate any help greatly and would love for anyone here to join the server once it's up.

This one was made for alpha 7 but it is pretty much the same.

Is that the one that you can download from Steam? There's one the Fun Pimps released on Steam so that peoplewould be able to do it for free. I am trying to find a tutorial for the Steam 7 Days to Die dedicated server tool.

You can start and stop your server at anytime. Obviously people willl be pissed if they join your server when you do this. I always play using my dedicated server software on my PC.Ive run it with 8 people and no lag from anyone. The server software is in your steam 7dtd file already with game. Not sure what this software is for you mention. You open ports needed(that can be difficult at 1st but can be done) then setup your server config file.I'm probably not helping much but telling you YES you can run it easy once you figure it out and it runs much better and more stable than having friend join on you in a regular game. You also have more options.Note that if you run it all the time theres risk of hacking or whatever from what I hear. Ive never had an issue but i don't run mine 24/7 either . +1 to Kaiodans link. basicly what I mentioned

The software I'm talking about is if you click Library, then Tools, then 7 Days to Die Dedicated Server.

It is a tool provided by Steam, and that is the one I am trying to figure out.

Thank you for the given replies though.

I followed the video every s tep, the software he recommended had different options than their newest version. I couldn't find an old one to download. I guess I give up. It's a shame because there are literally no good servers in this game.

Most of the good servers are private.

That sucks because its so simple once you get it figured out.Like riding a bicycle. You don't need that software. You already have all the files you need to run one from your PC(two files).Just have to setup your serverconfig file and open ports in your router software.

Cota can you message me and walk me through it?

Or anyone else for that matter, I just want to get it done and that video did not work.

Go into the dedicated server section of this forum and it shows you how to start one in a sticky. Its only two files you need .From there usually its port forwarding that gives people a hard time. If I get time I will but i'm busy with kids and working lately. Try and figure out how to port forard with your router and use Ipconfig in your command prompt in windows to know your Ipaddress if you don't know it.Should be the ip4 listed I think. I'll try asap when I get time to help. Message me if I forget.http://steamcommunity.com/app/251570/discussions/2/

Okay I got it where it says connected but when I log into 7daystodie and search for my server it doesn't come up? also won't let me connect to my own IP, yet the green light saying COnnected is on for Frontrunnertek server manager.

"Frontrunnertek server manager" ??? Did you go over the dedicated server help section in servers part of steam forums? You should have a bat file to start the serverconfig. file. Its all there and if you don't have your ports forwarded properly it will never happen

I have all that set up, it even says I am connected, but my server doesn't show up on the list. It's alright, I give up for the time being.

Do not use the batch file in the dedicated server tool folder. Instead, use the runserver batch file in the main 7D2D folder.

The reason the tool one doesn't work is because Steam fails to install the vcredist into that folder and it crashes with NullObject errors when someone trys to connect to the server.

Took me a few hours to finally figure that out before I got things working for me :ducttape:
