would i get banned
ive never actually downloaded a cracked game, but with 7dtd im getting extremly bored with the fact i need to be online to launch it, and alot of times im not online, ive brought the game and am extremly tempted to try finding a cracked version just because im getting really tired of constantly needing to have a connection even when i just want to play on single player, but i dont want to get steam banned/banned from 7dtd or something like that

Seeing as EAC/VAC are both in the game, there would be no way to know for certain. A VAC ban is especially nasty though - it can affect all of your dealings with people on Steam.

Beyond that, no idea. But we can't advocate downloading pirated copies, and we shouldn't even be discussing it since it is against Steam Discussion Guidelines.

eh i can delete the thread, and obviously you wouldnt say "go download the cracked version" i just really hope they have an offline mode very soon otherwise im going to end up doing so

You can discuss the ethics involved, the pluses and minuses. You just can't discuss how to do it, where to do it, if you should go do it, who has done it, etc. Piracy is just a difficult topic from any angle.

well really im not asking where/how/if to do it, just if id get punished for doing so after paying for a hugely single player game that is unable to be run offline

id understand if they were trying to stop people pirating the game by having the online check, but after looking quickly i can see it didnt work very well anyway

Normally pirated copies remove all such punishment measures, from a digital perspective. But again - you never know who did it, or if you'll simply be getting a virus in the download.

I tend to steer clear of all of that stuff, like no-CD patches, etc. It's usually just not worth the risk.

If you weren't aware - you can launch the game while connected to the internet, then disconnect after it is running. You don't need to be connected all of the time.

i can do that sometimes, other times if i did that itd mean leaving my laptop on for hours so that i can play when i want to, and then when i quit/crash im screwed and 7dtd doesnt have a good track record for not crashing

can't you start without the anti cheat system??
i thought that meant you were able to boot it up without being online

Yes you can 404, but even the vanilla version of the game requires a connection at start-up right now. They are looking at removing that in the future.

whereas apparently the "other" version already has it removed. which is where the dillema lies

I'm not saying you should, but hypothetically, if you did... It would NOT require STEAM to be running while you played it. That's part of the "cracking" modifications. And it'd be wise of you NOT to have STEAM running while playing a cracked game. If STEAM isn't running they can't catch you doing anything on it.

HYPOTHETICALLY.

Since this topic consisted of a question which was discussed and answered by multiple people, and considering the subject matter.. I'm going to close it down. Wouldn't want it to head in a different direction.
