Farming, please improve farming!
Devs, please improve farming. There is so much realism in this game, would just be wonderful if you could add a bit more to it when it comes to farming. Like having chicken coops, or a den to breed bunnies or pigs. Not saying it needs to be the focus point of the game, but the farming aspect is so limited, its kinda boring not having animals to take care of. Hydroponic farming would also be great to have please. Some of us love to farm.

* this (altough i dont necasary need increase in yield)

I like farming in my base every now and then, even if there really is no point in it, i like to make nicer foods, and i like just having the fields in my base :p

What i dislike about farming is the slow punch punch punch punch . . on every plant.
Maybe a hoe with 300-500 % increase in speed would be a great answer.
Getting the crops faster and with a better visual instead of punching my crops would be a very nice adition!

The hoe existed for farming up until A18 dropped. Part of a long process of tilling plots with fertilizer that took a long time to make in cement mixers. Tilling fields with fertilizer is what made seeds yields more when harvesting, versus spending points today. But harvesting was grabbing the crop by hand.

And why are you punching crops? Knife is much faster. Always has been.

Some things, that was nice and realistic, fell away. I still love the game, dont get me wrong. But, I do miss some stuff. I just dont want to install mods, that makes people have to download. You do that, and then you have to have EAC enabled. I once had a guy go on our server and used some mod that put himself in god mode, Freaked me out. Dont ever want to see that again. But, if you put password on, you dont get players. Just cant win

You don't harvest crops with a hoe, though. A sickle would be a more appropriate tool (and only for some crops, e.g. you wouldn't harvest blueberries with a sickle). Bare hands is more realistic for harvesting some crops. Not by punching, but making a picking animation would be far more work to do it right. If it's even possible with the code they have.

I generally use a knife for harvesting. It's faster than punching and sort of appropriate in a way, a bit. Knives were general purpose tools. It's the best match we have and it's better than using a hoe for harvesting.

Increased yield comes from the Living off the Land perk. Which doesn't make a lot of sense, but it makes more sense than getting increased yield from harvesting with a hoe. LotL could be a stand-in for knowledge of farming. Although that wouldn't explain a higher yield from wild plants.

Fertiliser and irrigation would make more sense for increased yield, but that's probably not going to happen without mods. Farming is really only for roleplaying in vanilla. I only do it for base decoration. I think it looks appropriate.

Lol @ "there is so much realism in this game."

I do want farming to be changed though. I would rather have much longer grow times and no nerf to seeds. And I think farming perks should significantly increase grow times. Maybe have a perk that allows the crafting of a fertilizer.

The game used to have fertilizer that could be put on dirt blocks:)

When i said realism, I mean its voxel and you can destroy just about anything in the game thats not lcb protected. I was not talking about the farming or other mechanics. At the very least, to add buckets of water every now and then to the crops to help it grow. Which would make it a bit more realistic.

The farm plot is a simplified abstraction of the old farming system. The hoe, prepared fertilizer from the mixer was replaced with the effort of crafting the farm plot and incorporating nitrate and rotten flesh (both fertilizer).

For realism, I would prefer adding a chance a seed fails, modified by LotL...

Keeping noisy animals in a zombie apocalypse makes no sense if you are looking for realism. And thankfully farming is not needed in the game.

I thought you farm so you can grow all the ingredients to make the different foods. One of the recipes requires eggs. I would think that at least a small chicken coop would be a wonderful addition.

Maybe try the "Darkness falls" Mod. Its really different in there. First you need a water collector. Place it in a 2 blocks deep hole. Then you can craft a garden hoe and till the ground to place seeds. They must be within a certain range near the water collector to have water. The mod has also a lot more seed than the base game.

Do you have to have EAC disabled and must players install it too?
